where do you live in WA- i lived in bend in 76-77– i bet the property values are real high there now- very nice area though on that side of the mountains- i just dont think i could live with all the rain on the west side these days

its defineately the whole west coast. sad situation -there is alot i like in those states.
Property tax here too, no income tax, but a sales tax of 9.2 percent on everything material, groceries, labor, etc, etc. The is also the new tax on your vehicle registration to cover the new light rail ( some day), that has added a real nice hit on each of my vehicles.
Property tax is almost the same depending on the area.
They have added a very nice fuel tax, but they promise it will be a short term.
Neither are perfect. But between the two, I prefer Oregon. If I wanted to stay into boating, I would stay in Washington. Best in the world. But that's not in my future. Large boats are a luxury. We live on board now, but land us calling us.
North of Seattle about 25 minutes.
76-77, right in ball park for me with 78 last winter in school. Then came the real world. Lift tickets were only $12.00 a day. Spent two spring vacation s at In of the Seventh Mountain and Bachelor.
Visited one, maybe 20 years ago and didn't recognize the town. Miss the old college town.
Agree, grew up in Tillamook. Great place to be a kid.

mabie everitt/ mabie s boeing worker—dont matter- you know alot about the area allready and you live close/. thats a big advantage-/ mabie you should full time rv it s few years until you find the spot you want
You maybe a good guesser.holding off on rv do to storage and winter protection cost. Renting homes through sites like VROB for now on good possibilities. Get the feel of living there without the high cost, long term commitment.
Admiral doesn't want to wait until we retire to identify destination. Can't say I blame her. Boat life in PNW isn't easy during winter.

That's the trick isn't it. Trying to figure out the places to try out after we do our homework. Hence our request for location s for us look out. I know the areas I know from the past. Not really current for future decisions.
Those living in or visiting areas now have the best knowledge on which to base our research.

Baker City is a very nice little town in extreme eastern Oregon. About 9500 people. Very nice summers. But we have real winters here. Feet of snow is normal, which I personally like. If you like cold winters we have them. If not I would look at somewhere else in Oregon. Good luck with your adventure.

I don't mind the snow, but the wife on the other hand, not so much.

I think the part of Oregon you're looking for is in the East/North East corner. Some people call it Idaho. Then again if you were one of the ones in WA when I lived there for 16 years that kept voting yes to every property tax increase for every reason under the sun, maybe you should look at Portland. I'd hate to ruin the place I'm talking about!

Down here in Klamath County, it's gonna freeze tonight. Wages are low, and crime is high. Water is in short supply, but there's no end of meth and marijuana. Our winters aren't too bad, but spring is a bitch. Right now it's in the forties - forty five degrees, at forty miles an hour.
I just had to come inside cause my lips and eye lids were flapping too much.
I've been here all my life, and love it. Most of us live well into our sixties, and don't much worry about retirement.

jdThat would not be me. Now if the vote were for those politicians to balance their budget and quit lining their pockets, I might go for it.
