Anyone know if the new Nosler 224 70 gr RDF bullet will stabilize in a 1/9" twist at 223 velocities?

The standard stability calculators suggest that it will, but that you might lose some BC at sea level due to Sg < 1.5.

If I already had the barrel, I'd give it a try. If I was building a new rifle, I'd use a 1 in 8" twist for bullets this long.

I think the box says 8 twist recommended. Usually that's an average as it still depends some on how fast your pushing that bullet. I think you could possibly get by with a 9 Twist in a 220 swift or 22-250. 223 would be iffy.

I've got a few hundred to try out on the way. If they don't work in the 1/9", I have a couple 1/8" and 1/7" to try with them.

I think they will work but haven't tried them. I've shot a ton of the Berger 70vld out of a 22" and 26" 9 twist and I would imagine these Noslers aren't much different other than pointed.

They shoot sub MOA out of my 223AI 1:9 Rem factory 20” barrel 2950-3100fps range. But I’m at 3500’+ Elevation

Yes they will stabilize in a 1-9 twist Savage barrel. I will be shooting them in mine. My buddy shoots them in his and are fairly accurate out to 800. At 500-600 for him they are exceptionally accurate.

What is his load?

I appreciate everyone sharing good loads.

This is on steel. A 6"x6" at 500 was hammering, pretty much the same at 600 with some missing. 700-800 a bit bigger steel was good. This bullet for 600 yard f class I'm not sure about. I will do a little testing the end of this year hopefully.

The 70 RDF seems like, a likely candidate for, a .22-250 AI with, the .416 BC / .965 OAL and stabilizing well in a 1-9 at, 3,200 plus FPS !
Do any of you guys know, the Bearing surface LENGTH, of this bullet ?
