Just got back from shooting prairie dogs, brought along an old caliber with a new twist.....Well it's not new, but it's new for me.
This past winter I purchased a 6BR reamer from PTG, zero freebore & minimum case specs. Having a used 6mm 14T barrel or two laying around I chambered one up for my XR100 and since I also had a 700 barrel nut on hand I used it.
Normally I'm a solid .220 swift guy, but I gotta tell ya that 6BR zero freebore contraption is quite impressive.....case full of AA2230 & 58 vmax's really do shoot flat and with continuous jaw dropping accuracy. One of those "one off" things that doesn't look that flat on a ballistic's chart, but in real life practical application it exceeds expectations. And I've shot a lot of different calibers at PD's, both .224 & 6mm calibers, which is why I prefer the .220 swift, now I found it's equal. I've read where a fella said that "accuracy makes up for a lot of BC"......I'll testify that it certainly doesn't hurt. I should note that in the past I shot/tried a 6 BR with a standard freebore and 70 NBT's.....shot like a .222 IMO, accurate ....yes, but felt like I was lobbing bullets.......not so with this 6BR zero freebore dog popper!
This is just an FYI post based on one guys experience in case your contemplating building another dog gun and don't know what to try next.
