SHOOTING 101 QUESTION

THE LAST TIME I WAS AT THE RANGE, BREAKING IN A BARREL, I NOTICED THAT WHEN I LOOKED THROUGH THE SCOPE, THE CROSSHAIR DOT WOULD MOVE ON THE TARGET AS I MOVED MY HEAD. I DONT REMEMBER RUNNING INTO THIS BEFORE. I ADJUSTED THE SIDE FOCUS AND THE FOCUS ON THE END OF THE SCOPE (EYEPIECE) TO NO AVAIL. IT WAS 100 YARDS, SIGHTRON SIII 10-50 ON A 6BRAI IF ANY OF THAT MATTERS. AND THE TARGET WAS VERY CLEAR AND FOCUSED LOOKING THROUGH THE SCOPE. ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED. THANKS. BRYANT

with the Sightron scope the AO is kinda tight and it is very easy to go past where you need to be,,,,after focusing the eyepiece you should be able to adjust the paralax out on the side knob,,if not something is wrong,,
so this is a parallax problem, which is the side focus?

You continually move your head around while looking through the scope on target and adjusting the side parallax without letting your face touch the rifle. Continue doing this until you have a clear sight picture and the reticle remains solid regardless of your head position. Do not pay attention to any yardage markings on the side parallax adjustment as they can be misleading. Once it's set where you can move your head around and the reticle stays solid on the point of aim you're good to go.

You would not have experienced the parallax effect with other scopes if they did not exceed 12X magnification. Parallax only occurs on high magnification scopes

Parallax can occur on any scope. It is simply more pronounced on higher power scopes.

Parallax will occur with any magnification scope- it just is not as apparent as on high magnification (to the average shooter). This is why Leupold, Burris, and old Weaver (el Paso era) marketed 6 power scopes specifically for Hunter Benchrest that had Parallax adjustment- this competition is capable of extreme accuracy that rivals the Varmint For Score (unlimited optics) discipline. Often a match has been contested where the Hunter Class rifle agged a higher score than 90% of the VFS competitors competing.

My apologies. Should have said "not easily noticeable" on low power scopes. Most modern variable optics under 12X have the parallax corrected so well there's no point in having any adjustment for it.

Just to reiterate. With my two 10-50s, every time you change magnification, or change yardage, you need to adjust out the parallax. And as you've noticed, just because everything is in focus, does not mean the parallax is out. Sightron does well to have a wide area that the picture is in focus, but you need to keep going until the reticle stops moving. As I said, it is affected by changing magnification too. At least my two were. My comps don't seem to be affected by that.

If this is true then why did Leupold make a 3 to 9x scope with adjustable objective?

Parrallax = the apparent movement of crosshairs. Don't go by the #s on the scope , they are for reference, generally . Everyone's eyes, are different. Eyeglasses, humidity, temp ,sun location , exact range etc all make parallax a change required many times throughout the day . At least for me , could be my eyes just getting tired .

Because Leupold optics are junk.

No you cannot get a scope perfectly 100% parallax free. Kahles scopes come about as close as you can get to achieving perfect parallax adjustment. Lets not turn a simple subject of helping a new shooter with adjusting out parallax turn into a shit show of keyboard warriors trying to get their 2 cents in just to feel like they've made a point.
