Cz 527 Rebarrel

Thinking about upgrading the barrel on my Cz 527 223, and maybe a little action work, smooth and square, Does anybody have a Recommendation

Metric threads and funny looking shoulder for headspace. Some oddball SAE thread may work if you don't have access to a metric pitched lathe, google it, and possibly square the shoulder abutment. Jim Calhoun would be the expert.

PacNor barrels can set you up and have the CZ barrel tapers already so if you are trying to match your current profile, they would be a good candidate.

The smith was Allen Elliott (520) 518-1948 who was referred to me by Lester Bruno. did a real good job.

Talk to the office manager up at Pac-Nor...Chris, is the owner & has done a few..One for his own son in the caliber I wanted..25-45 Sharps..Stupid me, I let a guy re-bore my 527 carbine & "he" in AZ totally screwed it up..Go w/ the guys you know do good work..Chris has done at least 5 barrels for me...Every one, first rate work...Mike in Ct

A buddy just got his CZ550 back from Pac Nor and is very pleased. He had the shot out 22-250 14 twist and had them replace it with a 7 twist 22-250. The turn around was super fast and the rifle is shooting great with 80 ELD-M bullets and H4350.
EDIT:
I have had a R700 rebarreled by PacNor as well and was truly happy with it. I've also had two CZ527 actions rebarreled. One was a 22 Hornet redone in 17 Ackley Hornet and the other was a 7.62 carbine that was redone in 6PPC. Both were done in a buddy's basement in the Atlanta area.

Not sure who you are referring to. Lester has done six rifles for myself, three times that many barrels and a "whole lot" for friends who are, as I am, pleased. Only Allen other once - and his work was excellent. For re-barreling, I'll absolutely not hesitate to recommend and use him. I do know this - I have had a lot of work screwed up by good gunsmiths that were good at "other" aspects of the trade than what I asked them to do. As you say - I too "screwed up". ALWAYS ascertain what their specialties are before sending a rig off. If it is not their specialty or have done it before - you are at your own peril - just as with any other occupation.

I've had several CZ527', and when I rebarrel mine, I use a CNC lathe to cut the metric threads, and leave a shoulder to locate with. Then open up the barrel channel to fit.

Kevin Weaver did some work on one of my CZ 527 17 Hornets. I was very happy with his work and Kevin was great to work with.

Good to know; thanks. I’ll try to remember that when it’s time to re-barrel my .204 Varmint CZ.

I have tried to use a 700 receiver with a 20 Vartarg, my fat fingers don't like that.
I'm gonna move all this over to an XP receiver to try, if that doesn't help, then move it to a CZ 527.
There should be plenty of material to cut down for the smaller receiver.
But with the CZ receiver, I don't have the options of after market stocks and triggers.
There is a lot more options with the 700 platform.

Not a lot of options, but they’re out there:
Rifle Basix sells a 527 trigger. H-S Precision and Bell and Carlson offer stocks.
Also, some build 6PPCs off of 527 actions, which are occasionally offered for sale alone; saw some in .22 Hornet recently.

I've never hit the wood lottery on any of my CZ 527's so all of mine have been their meh generic looking walnut stocks. I'm typically not a real big wood guy but I wanted to give my CZ 527 204 a better look than the ho-hum boring looking factory stock had so I ordered a stock from Boyd's in their Coyote Laminate and it turned out pretty well.

If you change the pull weight spring in the CZ 527, I bought mine from James Calhoon, you can tune these triggers down to 8-10 ounces pretty easily. James only charges 2 bucks a piece for those little springs so it's a really cheap fix and I have all mine set at 10 ounces with zero creep. I never really liked using the set trigger feature and a 10oz trigger works very well for me.

Good idea, I will look into that.
The smaller receiver is easier on the small cases, and the integral bases are handy. I can't help but put a shoulder on the barrel, maybe I've fitted too many 700s.
