Question for your AR15 owners

I bought a new AR15 supper cheap. so cheap i had to buy it. But I have notice on V-match type of ammo it pulls red tips off of them if I want to eject shells before firing them ? Wondering what is causing it and is there a simple solution. I normally shoot black hills 52 hp blue box so don’t see it in this ammo but something going on here with red tip ammo. It shoots it but does not like to eject loaded shell. Something pulling tips off of shell ? Goggled it but not putting in right discripition in it for problem I guess.
DonI need to worry about it or try to fix it ?

probably the ejector spring, pushing the case sideways.
you can lessen the force, and still eject by tuning the spring..remove one coil at a time.
the brass will not go as far, and maybe at some point, stop knocking tips off.
i shoot 50 zmax(green tip version) but i just pull the trigger
 
Ok I am going to shoot a few more rounds through it this Monday Tuesday. See what happens. I also got to make the tips are not coming off when they going into the chamber. Wonder what cause that I’d that is the case. It is very odd to say the least Marty
 
Make sure there not getting stuck in the barrel.... Probably just hitting the side of the chamber when ejection is occurring... Shouldn't though... Might wanna check and make sure the ejector is not stuck , it should move if not it's an easy fix...

I sometimes shoot the federal 50 gr varment tips and don't have that problem.... Is it breaking them on the feed ramps..?
 
yes...do you have m4 feed ramps..they are longer than the earlier ones.

It won't hurt but any work needs to be done by someone who knows exactly what they are doing....

An easy fix is to start using Sierra matchkings , plus they don't mind the jump from having the issue of loading to magazine lengths.... I would say it's breaking them on the feed ramps but without seeing it you will have to find out... What scares me is were are the tips going..in the barrel , in the trigger group , your finding them I hope... Because if it is breaking them on the feed ramps that meens there broke before chambering all the way....
 
If you have lead tip hunting bullets chamber a couple , SAFELY of course and see what it does to the tip... If it bends it up bad then your feed ramps angle could be off a little... Those plastic tips will break sometimes with the rough cycle of an automatic..

I am sure someone else will chime in with more help in a little while...

AGREE with, the post above ^^^ Have a COMPETENT Gunsmith, re-contour and polish your feed ramp !
I shoot the 60 grain Baltip's with, NO problem now,.. after polishing !
Not all of, the "marks" go away,.. but most do !
 
I am having a hipertouch trigger put in in a couple of weeks by gun smith. I Will have him polish feed Ramps while he has it. Thanks. Marty
 
When you extract an un-fired round, you will notice that the tip of the bullet is dragged backwards along the back edge of the locking lugs. That edge, especially on new rifles, can be really rough/sharp - and can "catch" in the separation between the plastic tip and the bullet. Just like popping off a bottle cap. Taking a dremel tool with a soft stone and GENTLY breaking the rough/sharp edges of the back of the locking lugs, then polishing - it should both eliminate this problem - and stop your brass from being scratched during extraction after firing. I doubt you have a true mechanical problem - just a situation requiring that sharp edge off that is catching your tips.

the bbl extension is HARD. good luck trying to polish it.

That is why one must grind a bit first. This is one sharp edge that will scratch a lot of cases and rip a lot of tips off before being burnished with use. Five to ten minutes of fine tuning sure beats what he is encountering forever on.
 
it is why they make m4 feed ramps..BEFORE HARDENING.

I use a different approach to do the same thing. I use the medium ceramic rod from a knife sharpener. It is just the right size to take the sharp edge off the two lugs on the barrel extension the brass contacts during ejection. I never had an issue with the polymer tips being ripped off, just don't like the gouges a new barrel extension will cause.

Fix me up I hope when he puts in a hipertouch trigger for me in 2 weeks. Marty
 
Before you do anything check the same ammol in a different upper to see if it acts the same way
 
Ok. I am sure it is gun. Doing it in v March and it spot point. Scratch down size if bullet now. He is going to polish some areas up. Marty
