Accidentally dumped 1/8 lb of Varget into 7.5 lb can of H4895

So one day I'm sorting my powders and happened to have an almost empty 1 lb. can of Varget and decided to blend it in with an 8 lb. jug that I had. I pulled the 8 lb. jug off the shelf and poured in the Varget only to realize that I actually poured it into the 8 lb. jug of H4895! As stated in the title, I probably poured about 1/8 lb. of Varget into 7.5 lbs. of H4895. I did this months ago and have just sat on it as I didn't know what to do with it. The recent post on blending powders prompted me to revisit the situation. I don't know, perhaps I could use it for AR plinking loads? Are the burn rates close enough to make this safe?

What Alf said. The amount you added is so minute , just mix it up and it will be lost in the mix.
 
The first thing I learned in reloading is to keep only one kind powder on the bench at a time. All my powder, by design, is stored on a shelf under the top of my reloading bench to prevent a brain fart. :confused: Only the powder I'm using at the moment is on top of the bench.

The other thing I learned, which isn't easy, is to stay focused on the reloading process and not let my mind drift to the ghogs fields and other things. The older I get the harder this is.:oops: That's why I developed fail safe systems such as double checking primer selection, powder selection, powder charge, case fill, scale set up, and bullet selection etc.

I can't comment on mixing the powders but I wouldn't use mixed powders under any circumstance. It's not worth it. Treat it as a lesson learned and redesign your reloading process to prevent this from ever happening again by developing a fail safe system in your reloading process. The bigger and more expensive the mistake the more chance is you won't repeat it.

No sir, I've never call anyone a jerk. We all make mistakes and I've made a bunch of them. I was just trying to help a fellow shooter.

How about this, I dropped a rifle after cleaning it on the basement floor cracking a $500 Leupold scope! Good thing the wifey was upstairs. I used every curse word in the books and some that aren't in the books.

Hey money I believe the mix could be dangerous so if you ship the powder to me I will properly dispose of it and as punishment you must pay shipping. only kidding before I get flamed. reduce you loads and rework them up after a through mixing and enjoy having a wildcat powder mix.
 
Load one round and see what happens? If you don't leave a note and don't live to tell anyone whomever buys a jug of H4895 at your estate sale might be joining you whichever way you go (up or down). :eek: If on the way home from testing you realize you should have left a note then all is good no???:confused: Things can only go 2 ways, good, or not so good!!!! ........or isn't it that simple? I confuse easily anymore.lol
