It looks to me like someone built a custom sleeve for the action.
I thought that also but then enlarged the pic and saw the 70 Ton prof mark on the receiver . I just relooked at the bottom shot , you can clearly see the original receiver under the sleeve , if you look at the rear action screw .

Any markings on the barrel ? What country are you in ?

Hello, thanks for Help! I call from Austria/Europe. On the barrel only write the Serial number, all weapons in Europe gets a serial number, the Kaliber 30.06 an its write "ZOT"...on barell and System! See picture.
The "System" and Barell very professionel making, is this Tuning from Savage or from a Custom-Shop?
And why?

Sorry...my English not perfekt:))

Greats

Not factory savage . That barrel looks hammer forged like a Steyr. Someone or some company other than savage made a sleeve ( fits over the factory action ) installed a barrel without the adjusting nut . It looks very well done . Does the proof marks indicate a date . In the UK I know it must be reproffed when a barrel is changed ( at least it use to be )
Nice rifle , great cartridge. Shoot and enjoy

That is... *awesome*. I've never seen a sleeved Savage before!

In the US, firearms get a serial number on the receiver, usually on the left hand side, often towards the rear receiver bridge (opposite the bolt release 'ear'). Usually when guns get sleeved like that, the sleeve has a cutout or 'window' to keep the serial number visible.

My knowledge of what other countries require or do is pretty limited and/or general. Some countries put the serial number on the barrel, not the receiver, which is kind of a hassle because the barrel is, to some degree, a consumable part. It's possible that some countries require S/Ns on both. The other possibility is that the markings on the barrel are related to where the barrel was installed and/or tested. It's my understanding that having a firearm rebarrelled in Europe isn't as simple as it is in the U.S.; there are requirements for proof testing, etc. at certified facilities that would stamp/mark it accordingly. Again, I'm going off general hear-say on this, so you might want to find someone more local to you that is familiar with this sort of thing.
