Redding 2 Scale Leveling Screw

Anyone know what diameter, length and threads etc are for a replacement screw for the leveling screw on a newer Redding #2 beam scale? I found one in a pawnshop and the screw is gone. Would really like to put a nice fat knurled top screw in there but anything will do at this point. Thanks

Get one about 2.5 inches and cut some off with a hacksaw if it's too long.

Where did you get the gold looking knurled one with the "bearing?" in the tip? That looks way more stable.

I was thinking of putting some type of flat wide foot on the bottom of the bolt to add stability. Teetering the scale on that one bolt just doesn't seem stable for a beam scale by a long shot. RCBS at least used to use a real wide flat foot.

The level adjuster is one of the points, at the other end of the scale, RCBS, Lyman Redding what ever, there are two other contact points. Admittedly, the Redding scale is quite narrow and would be more stable if the base was wider, something like the Dillon Eliminator but adding weight to the scale helps.

The ball bearing adjuster stops the scale moving about when adjusting, avoids scaring up your desk surface and is just plain nicer to use.

I'm still certain ACE hdwe has what you need, i get a lot of my bolts there's a lot of different bolts with large ends there. No muss no fuss

I figured that bearing screw was custom but doesn't hurt to ask. What I went with was a 2.5" headless set screw. I threaded a knurled knob on top with Loctite. I am trying out both a threaded wood and aluminum ball knob for the bottom. I can always cut it straight if I don't like them. I will pack the base with modeling clay and fishing weights. It adds weight but I can remove it if I don't like it. Should be interesting.

Unfortunately the 505 type adjuster won't work. The Redding is adjusted from the top and 505 adjusted by the plastic disc. I believe the adjuster from a 10/10 would work but unlikely to find one.

Actually I found a nice large round disk threaded for 1/4" to put on the bottom. It appears to be nice looking knurled nickel 1.3" diameter and has what looks like a rubber coating/piece on the bottom. It has a real short 3/8" threaded male sticking out the bottom that I am going to take off with a dremel. It is a 1/4 female to 3/8 male connector piece for a camera to mount on a tripod.

Much of the hardware pieces to mount cameras are 1/4" threads and they have several types of thick large diameter washers both metal and plastic that would work. Some as cheap as 69 cents or less shipped. This was the nicest looking and the rubber bottom will be nice to keep from moving. It is overkill but will match the knurled nut on top. What the heck I have a project.

That's progress - The camera thread is 1/4 Whitworth, it's still a 1/4" x 20 thread but just a slightly different form, you may need to wind it in and out a few time to get running smoothly.

The other thing is, don't chop of the spigot on the bottom. the disc is not for stability, it's so you can adjust level. The scale needs to balance on a single point at that end.

The bracket on the side of the scale is for a small webcam, works really well when connected to a cheap android tablet.

Since Photobucket changed it's policy, I and thousands of others I guess, have moved to "Imgur" it works really well for me.
