First Shots at 300 and I Suck

Thanks all.
I appreciate all the advice I've gotten.
I haven't shot a match yet. I was supposed to on Sunday (Cumberland Riflemen) but the match was cancelled due to weather. It wasn't rainy, at least up by me, so I'm not sure what weather condition caused the cancellation, but it was cancelled. I am hoping to shoot the next match and will continue practicing as much as I can.

Come on down to Bridgeville this Sunday (if the weather cooperates) -we have a 3 x 600 midrange scheduled.

Thank you however my schedule won’t permit it. I’ll shoot Cumberland next month. I don’t make a living at it and therefore am not worried about making or not making it to a match. If you’re there next month, look for the newbie with a big silly straw hat and a “Bully Gunworks” sweatshirt.

Learn to read the wind. Put out two flags, 100 & 200 yds. Only fire a shot when u see the same flag conditions. Learn the MOA of ur scoring rings.
Once u decide on a wind condition that is recongizable, only fire in that condition. It takes patience n concentration. Draw the flag position u are looking for on ur score book to help u remember the condition. Practice!

Start there....but then fire shots on the same point of aim in different strength/direction winds, make a record of the condition and the point of impact, and really learn what certain conditions will do to your load.

Don't get too stressed. Day before my first 600 yard br match I sighted in my rifle I had just screwed together at 100 then shot groups at 220 yards which was max distance I could use. I was getting 3" groups. I figured I would get laughed out of the match the next day shooting 10"s or something. Well I went to the match and shot 2 3/4". Didn't win but I beat quite a few regular competitors. You never know how you'll do until you go compete
