Accuracy of 6br norma vs 6br remington

Although I've been reading the forum for a couple of years now, I've never had anything to say or ask about, until now.

I was wondering if anyone could give me information on the accuracy of the 6br Remington vs the 6br Norma at different ranges. I'm looking to purchase a 6br with a heavy barrel but the one that I'm looking at is a 6br Remington with a 1 in 14 twist. How far can I expect this rifle to shoot paper accurately knowing that I can only use the lighter 6mm bullets with this twist rate.

Any help would be appreciated.

it is all in the throat as to the diff.
so because of twist and throat you are in light bullets..
what distance are you thinking of shooting ?

I understand that the shorter COAL and twist rate of the 6br Rem limits the length and weight of the bullets I can use. I also know that the 6br Norma with a faster twist and longer COAL allows for the use of heavier bullets and thus longer ranges. Currently I only have access to 100 and 200 yard ranges, but I hope to get access to longer ranges in the future. That's why I'm asking for information about accuracy of the 6br Rem at longer ranges.

the 6br Norma will not even chamber in a 6BR Remington chamber...... Best go with the Lapua brass as Remington is a thing of the past.... The twist rate has nothing to do with the caliber, you can get what you want in either. Why handicap yourself with Remington chamber...... jim
 
Your 1:14 twist barrel will limit the bullets you can use far more than the slight dimension difference of the brass.
There are many excellent bullets in the 60grain class that are made for target shooting and should perform very well to 300 yards in moderate wind conditions. An 8 twist barrel would open up an entirely different world out to 1000 yards.
 
Out of every 100 people who have 6BR's, I would estimate no more then 2 would be 6BR-Remington's.
My point is, why be an odd duck?

Join in with the bulk of 6BR owners, shooters, and reloaders, and take advantage of the Lapua and/or Norma 6mmBR brass, and be on the same page with most everone as well as all internet sites, search results, and forum boards that are full of 6BR Norma information.

Having just shot a 40X 14twist a week ago at some prairie dogs, I'd say that 14 twist is quite a handicap. I was forming Lapua brass so I didn't care much about the accuracy factor and if you miss in PDog shooting you just shoot again. With that said, 300 yards is absolute max with the 14 twist and that still leaves a bit to be desired. My hit percentage dropped significantly after that range. On the other hand with my 8 twist 6BR and 95g. bullets my hit percentage was dramatically different!

Thanks everyone for your comments. It looks like the 6br Remington with the 1:14 twist isn't the way to go. Like I said, right now I can only shoot up to 200 yards and I thing that the 6br Rem would be OK for that range, but I expect to be shooting at greater distances in the future. The reason that I was considering 6br Rem is that I was looking at a Cooper Montana Varminter in excellent condition and at a good price. Cooper doesn't chamber any of their firearms in 6br Norma. I'm not a pro, but I have a Cooper Varminter in 222 Remington that shoots 1 hole at 100 yards. That's why I was considering the Cooper.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a rifle chambered for 6br Norma for an amateur to shoot and compete at the local range?

Same here. I took a 6br slow twist pd hunting in west Texas shooting 68s in the wind. Might as well taken a 22 rimfire. I would have had the same results and been a lot cheaper.:oops:

For factory, look at the Savages.
 
that maybe the spec but not what is produced.
even norma says the throat is the diff.

OK, you've all convinced me that I don't want a 6br rem. My problem is I'm from the old school when rifles were almost as much about good looks as accuracy. There was nothing like the look of a Sako deluxe, or Weatherby, or Colt Sauer in fine walnut. Nowadays it's hard to even find a good rifle with a wood stock. That's why I like the Coopers.

That said, as suggested, I went to the Savage Arms site and saw a model 12 Benchrest chambered for 6br Norma. It looks like a keeper for an amateur like me but I wanted to get your thoughts about it's quality and accuracy. Any opinions would be helpful.

Don’t look back.... get the “Norma” in my opinion , I do not compete with the folks on this site but I will share my experiences. If you decide on the rem. Chamber I know a fellow that has a nice one for sale.
