21 century lathe, DIY motor?

Very impressed
Thanks Dan. It just makes a job that I hate doing a little more pleasant. The motor turns just at the right speed for doing the job. All you do is to grab the handle and lift it off the little hook that it rests on, and that starts the motor and you move the handle to the left and the motor slides to the left on 2 rails and that's it. Piece of cake.

What RPM ? Do you do a second cut ? What is that final dimension ?
You'd have to call RCBS and find out what RPM it is because to be honest I have no idea. I've done PPC cases in 2 passes. I mostly do 30 caliber stuff in one pass like 30 BR, and BRX, ect.

How do you change the cutters for the PPC ?

How do you change the cutters for the PPC ?
The cutter is inside the neck turner housing that is attached to the lathe. I have 3 different ones that I use. A 30 degree for my PPC and 30BR & BRX cases, a 35 degree for my 30 Jag2 and Gorilla and a 40 degree for my 30 Thrasher. I tried to find out the RPM on that motor and in all the descriptions it just says that it's a high torque low RPM motor so you'd have to call RCBS to find out exactly what the rpm's are in that motor.

Let me re-phrase the question. If you are taking 2 cuts on the PPC are you using 2 different cutters set to different dimensions ? ?

No. The cutter is attached to the bottom of a shaft with a adjustable dial that the top. Turn the dial clockwise and the cutter goes down. You can see the dial at the top of the red anodized block that houses the shaft and cutter.

Cool ! How accurate is it ?

21st Century Lathe,

John, I will be calling you for one of the non-motorized Lathes.
Going to be needing one for turning 6MM BRA brass.
I watched the video on You Tube. I'm Impressed.

I wonder if after using the rcbs trim pro 2 motor with the lathe, if it can be disconnected and used with the Le Wilson trimmer? Easy to disconnect?
It's easy to disconnect but I wouldn't want to try to hook it up to my Wilson case trimmer. I rarely use the trimmer at all because my cases never get close to my chamber length in most of my rifles.

I guess the other question I have is, has anybody ever bought the harbor freight mini lathe and used that?

Yes, but I use a Pumpkin turner in the headstock with the brass floating in the holder.

I think I may end up going this route. Eric cortina has a video on YouTube with the HF mini lathe, He does everything from his mini lathe. Trimming, deburring, neck turning, neck cleaning, flash whole deburing all from one machine.. the one question I have is, why use the pumpkin? Why not use the regular lathe cutting blade with a mandrul in the chuck? Why use the pumpkin?

Thanks

From John's previous post;
RPM 300.
We also offer Other models for cheytac & 50ca., 100rpm to 200rpm. John

I see that but he mentioned that the cheytac one can be used on smaller cases. So use faster motor or variable or how does it change speed.

The Pumpkin by design has an escentric mandrel for fine adjustments used with the back plate. Once final thickness is set, remove the back plate and chuck up the stub of the mandrel. It’s almost like it was meant for that kind of use.

Do you know where I can find one?
