Lee collet die 6.5mm Creedmoor

Ok, my Forster FL sizing die is back ordered for awhile, so i bought the Redding body die and Lee collet neck die... adjusted to where it has a very slight amount of camover, or more accurately, pressure at the end of stroke (RCBS Rockchucker) and it seems ok. Bullets seem to seat with a smooth, steady pressure, although it seems almost to easy (compared to factory sizing dies). As the mandrel in the die is a set diameter, is it possible to adjust the neck tension without decreasing the mandrel's diameter ? Thanks for any info...rsbhunter

Try measuring the neck diameter before and after seating a bullet. After seating, the neck needs to expand at least .001" minimum for a single shot. Autos need more.

If neck expands .002" , it take about 35 pounds to move a 223 bullet.

Ok, measured New sized cases neck, .290....seated Berger .2925-.293......these are new Peterson cases and as Best I can measure,the neck thickness is .0145. Should be about right...just seemed easy seating compared to factory fl dies....

Plenty of tension. Its a 6.5 ? Not a 6mm?

Yeah, 6.5 creed...I'm sure it is enough tension, it's just that I guess I've been using factory dies for so long that I've gotten used to high neck tension ....I had an e-mail from Forster that stated the id of the neck portion on their die is .285...that means that resizing a fired case neck squeezes it .010-.011 from fired !!! No wonder they will custom hone them up to .008....Rsbhunter

Order different size mandrel from Lee. It's cheap. About 5$/each

I will mike the standard mandrel and order .001 and .002 under....I have Lapua and hornady brass also, that should cover it mostly...I appreciate all the help and advice..Rsbhunter
