18# gun for the 2k yard match

This match, with the 18# class, got the gears turning. When you run the ballistics, 2k is a STRETCH! Very cool you guys set this up.
What are you bringing, what would you build? Thanks for your input.

I would build a big 338, like Lapua IMP. It would have a 33 to 36 inch heavy barrel, minimum of 1.350 straight. A muzzle brake. I would put it in a barrel block, glue in, not a clamp. The stock would be long to accommodate the long heavy barrel. Now it would weigh in the 30's. Matt

I hope to bring a 300 norma IMP. But I will probably have a 338 lap imp barrel as well. So long as BAT come through in time. I hope they are reading! Bat M dual port in a Mcm A5 stock with the butt hook glassed over. 30" hv barrels shot from a phoenix bi pod most likely.

well under the limit by almost 2 lbs.
300 winmag in a a5 stock 26.5 bbl and a lowly 5.5-22x56 nf.
suppressed
lots of options if building to the 18 pound limit
i have shot out to 2k with it before...this will be interesting

18 pounds isn’t much. You’re basically talking about a f class TR rifle chambered in a .30 with a lot of case behind it. A brake is going to be a really nice thing to have.

what damoncali said, plus one!

A lot of shooters already have a rifle like this.

The idea, imho, should be to get more use out of a rifle you already own. Adding a barrel is not a $$$ killer.

For both 18 Lb. & 40 Lb. Bi-Pod classes I will shoot the same gun.
Savage Model 112 Target Action, 28" Bartlein 9.3 twist (.920 @ muzzle) with a Holland's brake chambered in .338 Lapua A.I.
Sierra-7 Bi-pod & I haven't made up my mind on the scope yet. - I'm at about 15-16 Lbs.
During my days off from work at offshore I'm devoting time & energy into getting ready for both matches.
I look forward to this event & the Nationals the weekend before, as well as meeting some fellow shooters.

I will use 338 Edge with 300 grain Bergers. Single shot predator with 30" HV Krieger for 18# bipod. Put a 4x4 ft gong at 2000 beside the 2 ft one I had up to practice a 5 shot group last week to see how it would go. Could see the hits good on the plate with 8x32 NF but some of the missed shots were hard to see in the snow without someone spotting for me. Had iPhone on spotting scope recording so I could replay the shots. Will also try my 7 saum hunting rifle with 195 grain Bergers . Did ok last year at 2000 but never shot a 5 shot group with it. Going to turn my 9 twist into a "deep throat" and see how much more I can get out of her. If it don't work be fun experiment. Try something else !

I have a 14 pound 300 rum running 215 hybrids I’m bringing. I shoot 1500 pretty regular with it but 2000 is gonna be a stretch for me. Hoping to have a new 338 toy by then if the stars align nicely!! Looking forward to seeing the country and shooting with everyone. Troy

+1 in reference to the NF 12-42 BR. We were @ 1700 and scope’s clarity was better than the cameras pic. Good fun !
( near the top end) like dmoran was saying. EE87B59C-17B5-47DB-9975-6F33BFDF413A.jpeg

Good to see that the guys planning it came around and decided to have a rifle class I was takin' flack for proposing in that other thread, 10pages back...

I'd bring my 30-338Norma Improved, and not feel 'undergunned' by anything in the 18lb. class. As evidenced by Mr. Wheeler stating he's building a version for himself, reckon the word's getting out on what they're capable of?

Good luck! Now that there's a class for "us", might just trek cross country to shoot...even though dmoran ignored my offer to come shoot a 'PRS-type match' with me...:)

As for optic, I'd use the 5-25x56 that's on top already. Plenty of erector travel with only a 30moa canted rail, plus the ability to hold up to 10mrad in the reticle, itself. Meaning, could dial to a certain dope, then hold the balance via reticle...

And that you are coming to school everyone up ? - That's my take on your post.
