I shoot a lot of center fire rifle (about a 1,000 rounds) a year so I clean a lot of rifles. For 30+ years I've been using Hoppe's synthetic patches because they do not shred or leave threads in the chamber or barrel. Apparently Hoppe's has disconnect their synthetic patches and replaced them with a cotton patch which shreds and leave threads.
I've tried Dewy and Pro Shot patches which also shred and leave threads behind. Basically these patches have a weave fabric which lends itself to shredding under pressure from the jag. In some cases just handling them initiates the separation of the threads.
What are you competitive rifle shooters using who shoot a lot? Can you recommend something that does shred?
I ran into the same problem with Hoppes patches. I use a parker hale style jag and Hoppes synthetic patches fit perfectly. I ordered more and the cotton version arrived. They don't fit down the bore, so I'm forced to cut the new cotton all in half and they're still a bit too snug, but work.
Anyone know of a patch (cotton or synthetic) that will fit on a parker hale jag in 223?
