Pumpkin mandrels

I've got a Pumpkin turner and am in need of some 7mm mandrels, both expander and turner, seems that Kelblys no longer carries them, they pointed be to Bruno who doesn't have any in stock. I knew I should have bought a set years ago but we all know how that goes.

My question is, do the PMA ones work with the Pumpkin turners, looks like they may and the spoecs seem the same, heck they make cutters for the Pumpkin, just wondering if I could use their turner mandrel. Would really like to get a carbide one made by Don and matching expander but doesn't look like that's possible.

Thanks

I was in the same boat a couple months ago. Don wanted a small fortune for just the mandrel. I ended up getting a K&M neck turner, and a mandrel for cheaper than what Don wanted for just the Mandrel.

could it have been a solid carbide mandrel, or a surface treated item.
both would bump the price a bit.

Bumping this thread, Don is out of the turner business and from what I've gathered there's supposed to be a new guy making the pumpkins but hasn't started yet.

I'm trying to find a set of 7mm mandrels for mine and unfortunately the Sinclair/PMA turning madrels don't exactly work with the Pumpkin which requires a longer shank to make use of it's micro adjust feature.

Anyone know where I could get a a set of 7mm mandrels for it, maybe someone has some collecting dust or even a full turner with the 7mm ones, I wouldn't be opposed to owning 2 Pumpkins.

Thanks

the pumpkin turning mandrel is ground with an offset that is how they get the fine adjustment.
no one else's mandrel has that feature.
I to am waiting on the new guy

I recently bought a 6mm carbide mandrel from Don Nielson don't know if he has any 7mm or not. He goes by The Pumpkin on here. It was $100. Might be pricey but its better than having to use a different turner for me.

Hey guys sorry for resurrecting this thread..... I just got a pumpkin from someone in both 6.5 and another in .30 .... so that is how the adjustment is made by the collar? because mandrel is essentially angled when you turn the collar it rotates closer or further away from the cutter? But then if that is the case would not the cut be uneven and at an angle also ???? or is the cutter vertically angled as well ? I just don't see how tow axis can possibly align in the same plane? in a regular tool rotation of the color should not change thickness.

So then when setting the tool up the mandrel flat should be against Screw D? otherwise the offset will be in the wrong direction ?
