installing m16 style extractor?

i just ordered an m16 style extractor from PTG. Does anybody have a print to go by for the cuts to install this extractor? Something to give me an idea of how deep to cut, locate pivit pin etc.

If you don't have a printout just measure it really careful when you have it and go from there......

DS, I've only done one of them. The hardest thing for me was to locate and drill for the pivot pin. Just a few thousandths off in any direction will screw the job up. If it's not too bad, you can handwork the extractor and make it function. I think if I ever have to do another one, I'll make a tooling fixture for locating the pin hole. Also I don't know how the pros do it, but I had to kiss the hole location with a small endmill just enough to allow a center drill to spot the hole before switching over to the correct h/s drill and finishing the hole. The extractor works very well if properly installed. I personally wouldn't call it an easy job.

When I'm at the end of the depth cut, I replace the end mill with a #31 drill and drill the hole for the pivot without moving anything. It seems to work for me...

When I do one on my CNC. mill I just program a G0 G91A-90. and it magically rotates the bolt exactly 90 deg.

I had a fixture made back in the 70s when I was converting 221 bolts for pistol silhouettes. Only way I could figure to get cross pin in right place. Good luck.

A dividing head or indexing fixture, on a manual mill, will accomplish the same.

Use anything square that can hold a bolt. Center the endmill on the bolt, rotate the bolt until the edge of the lug touches the endmill. Lock the bolt down in it holder and make your cut, then rotate the bolt and its square holding device in the vise 90 degrees and drill your hole. No jigs, rotary's, needed.
