Remington 700 bolt handle welding

Remove firing pin mechanism. Lift bolt to three o'clock position. Measure Gap from bolt handle to front of bolt recess with feeler gauge. Simple. Write your measurement down on a piece of paper, roll it up and put it inside the bolt and send it!

That's half of the info. location of the extraction ramp is the other half. --Jerry

Unless your bolt is already timed perfectly, than any smiith will need the action to time the bolt before securing it. --Jerry

Get a clue!
As a so called/proclaimed engineer, you have only addressed less than 1/2 of the equation.
Any other considerations in your equation?
(go cry to the forum boss, as usual!)

So Dan,

What makes you think your tirades are acceptable. You slander me, you claim you aren't drunk, and somehow you think it is acceptable. I wonder how those in this thread who think you are a good fellow have been so duped. --jerry

Jerry,
I'll bite my tongue, because you would probably cry & pester the forum boss w/ your spineless mentality.
Panties in a knot once again-SO BE IT.
Grow some manly jewels.

Lead,Follow,or Get The F_ _K out of the way!

I bow to NO ONE,never have,never will.

Dan tell us what measurements you need and how you can fix them better. Not getting into the pissing match just want to learn more about timing from the more experienced guys.

Dan,
Didn't ask you to bow. Just act professionally, which appears to be beyond your capabilities.

So do you need the action or not. If you can time a bolt without the action, please tell us how. We are all ears.

Your insults ar getting old. Get some new material.

As for the forum boss, you must have married his sister or he would have banned you long ago.

Dan timed this one without the action in his possession:View attachment 1033656

Please show us something that matters. Close-ups of the bolt/action interface would be helpful. I'm genuinely interested in how this is accomplished. I've done several PTG replacement handles myself and fought the urge to TIG them on (I silver-solder them) because even with the action stripped and in-hand many of them have to be de-soldered and reworked a bit. This would be disastrous had I TIG'd them. Is there some magic I'm missing?

I'll admit that later Remingtons (G and RR series) are sometimes so bad that a blind chimp could probably make it better.

To paraphrase Einstein, in timing bolt extraction, the ramp on the bolt needs to be moved as close as possible to the ramp on the action, but no closer.

Sure you can make it better, but if you go too far, the bolt won't close--so if you don't have the action, you have to leave more clearance than you would otherwise.

You'll have to ask Keith (KW Precision) whether he has the photos. I no longer have them. The man is a perfectionist, and nothing leaves that man's shop until it is right;)

There is a difference between improving extraction timing and optimizing it. One can be done without the action, the other can not. The functional difference between improved and optimized is nothing.
