300 WSM ??

Ran into something new to me. I have 300WSM brass ( Norma & Bertram ) that i was getting ready to turn necks. I ran the brass through the expander die ( I have used this mandral to neck up 30 Major from 6.5 and to expand 300 RUM brass with out issue ) and after a good number realized that it was sizing the neck as well as deforming the case below with a nice bulge at the body/ neck junction. The brass was properly lubed, some necks were a little tighter than others. I ran a few of the bulged pieces through the FL sizing die and tried them in the chamber and they will not go. I have sized up & down quite a few rounds with never an issue but this is my 1st. go at 300WSM. Have any of you guys experienced with this 300WSM brass??........What do you think went wrong.....o_O
Thanks for your input.....

Best Regards
Rick

Was it Both Norma & Bertram brass that did this or just one of the spoken 2 ??
I've worked a good bit with Norma brass but not the Bertram. - I've neck-turned over 1600 pieces of 300 WSM in the last 8 months so I understand what your doing. - When I did the brass I was working with I used a standard Sinclair 30 cal. (E30)expander mandrel & used Sinclair neck turning oil for my lube, applied inside the necks of each case with a Q-tip. - Never had a problem with any of it. And it all went across the mandrel without a whole lot of force & I lubed every one of them as well.

I have done many Norma cases and not an issue. I use a Q-tip and put imperial lube inside neck. It takes very little pressure to expand them. Some it hardly touches. Seems Maybe your expander might be big. I can seat a bullet after expanding with plenty of tension. Matt

Thanks for the input guys. My mandrel is the Sinclair as well. I will check it out for size. I can turn both down if need be. I used Imperial also but i have some slicker stuff here i can try. Both Norma & Bertram gave me the same result. I tend to be a little "Ham Fisted" when it comes to things.....I will give it another shot...
