Has anyone found the life span of peterson brass

I wish Peterson made brass in 6.5X47 Lapua - is there a reason why they don't?

Last fall when I was ordering a new barrel and trying figure out what it would be I really looked hard at the 6.5x47L. Looking at the match scores especially Rayners the 6.5x47L was usually at the top of the heap. I saw Peterson & Starline making 6.5 Creedmoor brass so I went with the Creed. Lapua makes good brass but I wasn't going to put up with spotty availability, no availability, and high prices from a foreign company.

I'm wishing Peterson & Starline the best at making high quality american made brass that wins matches.

The reason lapua makes 220 russian brass instead of 6ppc brass is the liability. We shoot extreme pressures in the ppc and you cant get that type pressure in a 220 russian so id suspect peterson would do the same. Theres been a few companies that made ppc brass and it didnt work out so well for them. Im betting if peterson made 220russian brass as good as their other brass it would be a big seller and they would quickly have a shortage of the other offeringsthey currently have. I know if i had a brass company i wouldnt dare make brass labeled 6ppc knowing what we do with it.

Norma makes 6PPC USA which is close enough. Never heard of them being held liable for any failures caused by shooters loading rounds with disregard to safe pressures. The company states the rated pressures of the brass. If someone surpasses those pressures, thats on them.

Just the same as brass companies that make statements to aleviate themselves from liability by saying the brass is not to be altered or fireformed into any other shape. But people still Ackley and blow shoulders forward to make BRAs and Dashers and whatever other widlcats they can dream up.

Ive pushed cartridges to their breaking point a couple times in my novice years reloading. Had a primer pocket blow out so bad I blew apart the extractor rim on the bolt face of a 700 and had to have it reamed out and bushed. Explosion had so much force it melted the bullet going down the barrel and blew open my hinged floor plate! Can't blame the brass company because I was pushing the extreme limits of pressures. I was just happy to still have my eyes and fingers. Got lucky on that lesson.

I see no liability in another company besides Norma producing 6PPC brass.

6ppc usa is a totally different cartridge than what we shoot in br competitions. No norma brass on the line either. 6ppc usa is the chambering that sako used in their varmint rifles.

I suppose it's easy enough to make 220 Russian cases. I know Norma probaby wouldn't hold up to some of the stout ppc loads like Lapua does. Would be nice if someone finally made a standard 6PPC case available. Could have it SAAMI tested for pressures to avoid liability issues.

Every ppc building gunsmith thats successful has his own idea of reamer design. It would be hard to standardize a ppc round besides whats already done- the usa version

Yeah I noticed there's a ton of different variations. Usually in the body taper and neck length. A good taper on the body and long neck on the standardized brass could be fireformed to any variation. But then I suppose the 220 Russian brass already does that for you guys.

Good gunsmiths reamers form the cases perfect with the available brass. Not even a need to trim.
