AA2200 in 223 Experience?

I have used the older "Data" version in my .223s for several years. I picked up a large quantity very cheap when a local shop went out of business. It works very well with the bullet weights I use (50, 52, 55), but is a bit dirty burning. Nothing a quick dry patch won't get out between thorough cleanings, but definitely sooty. The newer lots may not have this problem. It meters smoothly. My rifles perform best with loads close to MAX, but yours may well perform differently.

2200 works awesome in the 223ai with 40 grain bullets, 4,000fps is attainable. Should work well in the standard 223 as well although you won't get that much velocity. I will offer a word of caution with using 2200, once you reach the top of its velocity it can over pressure very quickly so work up loads in small increments and only in the Temps you will be using them in if running near max loads.

I've used it in dog towns (Atlas 223AI, 40gr VM) the past two seasons. Haven't chrono'd it, but a friend calls it the Vulcan Death Ray. I also shoot it in a 20 VT with 32gr bullets....same result. Good stuff in a 223 based case.

I shoot 2200 in my 223 and in my 20 vartargs . I also bought a ton of it back when it was Surplus powder.. I think if I was starting over there are better powders for the 223 now

What is the load area- start to max for the 2200 in the 223 ? I use it fully in the 20SCC and will give it a try in the 223. Bill K

I'm using 28.1 with a 40gr VM. This is an a 223 AI, but I have used the same load in a fire forming round. I might add that these bullets are coated with WS2, sometimes called Danzac.

I agree that there could be better new powders. CFE223 has proved exceptionally accurate and clean in my .17 Remington, 22/250 and .223.
When I finally run out of my stock of 2200 (.223 being the only cartridge I load where 2200 is a fit and I have quite a bit of it), I will switch to the CFE223.
