Sierra 150 grain 6.5 Matchking

Holy X-rings, Batman....3020fps!!!

Is that with Lapua brass Wade? How much RL-23? You are giving me heartburn as I just had two barrels finished for the 140-142's in 8tw and 8.5tw chambered for the BJAI. I gues I will need to get a 7.5tw ready after the Berger's. (Big sigh).....:D

Robin...seriously...

Lapua brass. 50.9g of RL23. I am shooting an 8 twist barrel too right now, but just bought a 7.5" twist that I shipped to Tim. Might be trying a 7.5" twist if this node pans out.

did not know where to start so as always I started low.
Norma Brass H-1000 powder Federal 210 primers
tried from 56 to 58 grains testing for velocity. My goal was 3050fps. got there pretty easy.
I settled on 58 grains which gave me 3080fps
Next tried seating depth test from 5 off to 65 off lands in .005 steps. found two spots that looked promising .030 off and .065 off the lands.
shot them at 100 to start .2 size groups with both seating depths.
Next out to 600 yards. I was pleasantly surprised with the 30 off (3/8"group) and 65 off( 1"group) . The group to the left of 2"orange dot is .065 off and the one inside orange 2" is .030 off. both groups are very acceptable for 600 yards but the 30 off was tighter with less vertical at about 3/8" group size.
I will be taking both seating depths to 1000 yards around the first of February . I will post some more then

Nice shooting. In case I missed it what is the twist rate on your rifle?

30” stick? What freebore?

Should be able to go to 60 gr H1000
yes 30" and yes you can go higher on powder. I'm still in the testing stage with this project. as of right now I did not measure freebore. I just throated it out to get it out past dounut area. My goal was 3050fps to be able to out shoot 284 with 180's and my tried and true 7mm saum with 195's. At 3100fps I'm not sure of barrel life and barrel heat. So more testing is to be done. This Last month I was dam near on my death bed with the worst flu of my life. 14 days of hell. ( so project going slowly)
My goal with this 6.5 saum less recoil with these new 150's compared to 195's an 7mm saum. Less recoil equals better ride in bags, better accuracy. The speed right now will be faster than 3100fps once barrel break in. thats plenty fast with .713 BC bullet.( trying to keep pressure down an barrel life up) An so far seirra has got this bullet done right. All testing has shown great accuracy. I will update as I go. But the 7.5twist I feel is the right twist rate for these bullets.
Thanks,Thomas Holbrook Precision Rifles

3/8 looks like a record to me....

New Edit to this post.... I AM NOT MAKING FUN AT ALL... NOT AT ALL... I WAS JUST TAGGING ONTO THIS GREAT THREAD WHILE AT THE SAME TIME WONDERING IF IT WASN'T SOME KIND OF RECORD. IF NOT... THEN I SHOW MY IGNORANCE, BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW THAT THESE RIFLES SHOOT THAT WELL.... SORRY.

3/8" group at 600 yards is that a new record?

It sounds like y'all are poking fun at Tom. I know Tom very well and he sends me pics with the "low-down" on what he did>>>BOTH good and not so good. If you are poking a little fun at him, ask this question: "how many "records" WOULD BE SET if they were shot in a match"? I have a pic of a 5 shot groups at 100 yards that, as best as I can measure groups", is 0.016"! That may very well be a record IF it were shot in a benchrest match>>>but it was shot during load development! Just sayin'...

Ben my father once told me. Son try to listen you learn more that way. There will always be people who poke at you and people who bully you. Surround yourself with great people and great things will happen. Choose the other and well you know the outcome. So for those who want to share valuable information on this site take the information and learn a little. For the rest god bless you.
