1000 yard scope?

muleman69

Need to buy a scope with enough clicks to get me out to 1000? Will be shooting a 195 grain bullet at around 2900fps, B.C. of 610. How many clicks of up will I need from middle of scope range ? .300 win mag

Attached is the ballistic chart for my .300 win mag with a 190 grain berger VLD. I shoot a nightforce 5-20x56 mounted on a nightforce 20 moa base. 1000 yards should be no problem with the set up.

You really only need 30-40 MOA total height adjustment in the scope you select. Don't figure from the middle of the adjustment range. Figure on getting either a 20 MOA base or a set of Burris Signature rings with the inserts for 10 - 20 MOA.

Then set thing up with a close-range zero near the bottom of you adjustment range. Now you have the full range of adjustment to go up to 1,000 yards or probably way more than that.

I found a Leupold Vx-6 3-18x44. I need to check on clicks, thinking it should be able to do it?

You'll need approximately 25-30 minutes of scope elevation to make 1000 yards with a 100 yard zero for your set up. I used a fairly wide moa range because I have no idea of the your elevation. Most scopes will give you that internal elevation without an moa base. I'd go to a 20moa base and any long range scope will fit your requirement. Your toughest decision will be picking out your scope of choice as there are dozens of great choices.

Ya, sounds like I need to pick up some bases for starters then hunt for a scope I can afford

A Sightron S3 8-32 with the MOA-2 reticle would fit the bill nicely. It has 70 moa in the scope. You can sometimes find them here used at a good price. Just my .02.
Sounds good, not familiar with MOA-2 but will look it up. Have one Sightron already that I really like

Be sure to get a scope with ample total adjustment if you are going to use a 0 MOA base. You want to avoid maxing out the adjustment.

I get more than enough with a 20 moa rail & Burris Zee rings to go 1760 with my .308 & 195 TMKs. SWFA SS 20x
