IOWA RIFLE RANGES YET ANYONE???

I moved down to Iowa a couple months ago. The countryside here in middle Iowa seems to naturally lend itself to long range shooting with the wide open and gently rolling field spaces and the periodic hillsides that would work as natural berms. I am already missing the 600 yard range near Faribault, MN and just wanted to ask if anyone else down here shoots long range 600 to 1000 yards or if there are any ranges private or public where a guy could enjoy the sport.
Any help or suggestions appreciated.
Happy and Joyous holidays to all.

Van Meter has a range that meets your needs ? Private membership, name escapes me at the present.
In northern Missouri there is a range by the name Vapor Valley Trail, they have a web site, it's near the town of Spikard. Maybe others will chime in.

Thanks much for that info. Will do some checking

There is one north of Afton at 3 mile lake, they have a facebook page called High Lakes Outdoor Alliance. They have a trap shooting, pistol and rifle, I think membership is $35 a year or $5 for the day. I have shot a couple of PRS matches there, nice place.

I'm not sure what Iowa has for ranges, but I know a few shooters from Iowa that drive to Wi and Mn for long range competition.

Thanks Ringo. I kept my membership at my MN range but it only used to take me 20 minutes to get there and shoot 600 yards. Now it's 4 hours away. Hoping to find something down here a bit closer.

Check out Milan Gun Club, Milan , Illinois
Just across the Mississippi--part of Quad Cities area
They have 600 yard matches--well attended.

Also Oak Hill Gun Club in Blue Grass, Iowa (Part of Quad Cities)

The Des Moines rifle & revolver club is located in Van Meter.
It is a wonderful range that offers across the course, mid range,F class and small bore matches. It has 20 firing points with pits at 200,300, 400,500 & 600yds

Not sure where you’re at, but I’m near Dubuque. In two hours or so I can get to the following ranges:
Lodi, WI, 1200 yards
Milan, IL 600 yards
La Crosse, WI 600 yards

In 3 hours
Van Meter, IA 600 yards
Mason City, IA 300 yards

I know there’s others as well. Check out Illinois rifle and pistol associations ten state schedule. They include a listing of ranges.

Where are you located in the state? There’s plenty of places for pistol Shooting as well,if you’re in to that.

Neil

BIG THANKS to all of you for trying to help! It doesn't surprise me because in all the time I have been on this site I have to say the people on this site are the BEST on the web period! I can say I've never met any group of good people anywhere so willing to help and share.
I am located near Waterloo at least for now. I called John near Mason city....What an awesome guy?? I definitely have hopes of getting there and to some of these ranges to shoot and possibly compete.
My hope is to find someone/somewhere within maybe 50 miles of here to practice shoot and develop loads with and share the sport and experiences.
As I said earlier, when I drive around the country side here, it's just seems hard to understand why there wouldn't be more long range rifle shooters around here as it just seems to naturally lend itself to that.
There is definitely an abundance of pistol shooters and locations to do that and I do have some interest in that but long range rifle is where my greatest interest is.
Best Wishes All.

There’s a Very Small (8 or 9 firing points?) 1,000 yard range 30 minutes south of that Milan, IL club previously mentioned. Called Rivoli Rifle & Pistol Club, it’s private though. I don’t know what their current activity plans are, I haven’t shot a match there in two or three years but it’s a challenging range (watch for cattle down-range!!) and a fine group who put on events.

Other than that there’s Winnequah Gun Club (north of Lodi, WI, members only) and Gopher Rifle & Revolver Club (an hour north of Twin Cities just west of Harris MN, again members only) for anything beyond 600 yards.

You really need to watch for Konrad Powers’ 10-States Highpower Schedule coming mid-March! Available here, Konrad’s been doing this for years as a favor to us and the ranges (that send in their match schedules!!) we have around here. Makes planning for your year’s activities a no-brainer & includes contact info for the clubs listed.

Thanks SP. I'm very familiar with the Harris, MN club and have been there several times. I belonged and still belong to the Faribault Rifle and Pistol Club in Minnesota and have been a member there for some 30 years. It was only about a half an hour from my home and they have a 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 yard range there that spoiled me for sure. Also the people there are just plain great! For some reason beyond my understanding, they made me an honorary member there and I even enjoyed free membership, so you can see my situation.
Thanks again

Unless the range already exists, its gonna take sub $2.50 corn before anybody considers an alternative use for decent land... And until ethanol goes away.....

On that note I tried a tank full of the ethanol blend in my car and got 1/3 less mileage but the price is not 1/3 less than the non ethanol......could be just me but will not be buying any more of it.
