This is what dreams are made of...

I actually have a muley/whitetail in my collection. Had the mule deer body but a whitetail rack and tail. Game warden made me tag it with a mule deer tag. If I remember correctly a mule deer can breed a whitetail doe but a whitetail buck cannot breed a mule deer doe. I may be bass ackwards on that.

West Texas has mule deer. Looks like a hybrid. Muley / Whitetail mix. Antlers definitely have muley characteristics. Congrats on that Whopper. No where to go from there.

This animal is definitely 100% whitetail. He didn’t feel comfortable giving me the photo with the shooter. Something about a violation of privacy? Anyways its a much more detailed picture

Agreed. Time for the guy to take up quilting.

Years ago I took a lady friend trout fishing. Her first time trying it. Within minutes she hooks and lands a 5.25 pound rainbow. After that she kept asking why she was only catching baby trout.

I don't see a tag on the deer in the op. Must have different tagging rules than we have here. They are kind of strict about it!!

Shoot man, in Texas you can hunt pigs from a helicopter using AR's. I'm guessing tagging deer might be unnecessary there? In fact, my state just eliminated the tagging requirement this year.

In Texas when you purchase a license they give you tags. 5 whitetail. 2 muley bucks. 4 turkeys and a red drum tag. Different zones have different bag limits and seasons. Its up to the hunter to be aware of these laws.

Hunting from helicopters is big business. I believe most get $750 an hour to fly properties. Everything from hogs, coyotes, bobcats, pigs, and deer are killed.

I wont throw the guy under the bus but he did break several laws harvesting this deer. Most of it is pure ignorance on his part but that deer should have been tagged immediately after the kill. After that the head has to be transported with the carcass for identification. Tag stays with the meat at all times. Even at the butchers.

In Pennsy, it depends on what unit you are hunting. At any rate, the rules are archaic to say the least.

Here in western OK, most of our mule deer seem to have some whitetail characteristics in the Bucks. On the ranch I hunt, 90% of the Bucks have whitetail configuration on one side and muley forks on other. I believe the more aggressive whitetail bucks breed the mule deer does. I've seen twice whitetail bucks run off muley bucks during muley rut. Here the muleys rut couple weeks earlier than the whitetails. This doesn't happen often but I think it's in some of the muley does genetics

he is correct, they can and do cross

Both picture are of fantastic deer. I never cared about horns much but if I had gotten something like these I don't know if my head swelling would come down. Every deer I have taken is a trophy to me because it is a gift received.
