Texas Badger

My son was lucky enough to have me awake while he was sleeping in the stand. That's when this bugger made a short appearance. She popped out just after the turkeys went scattering from the feeder pen. 1 single pop from the 300 Black out from about 45 yards.

I’m not 100% sure, but for some reason I thought they were on the protected list. They are cool looking seen several in the Sanderson area. While on a fishing trip to Alaska this summer got to see a wolverine in the wild.

I am not sure if they are protected or not. However, I know they are the snakes worst nightmare! Snakes are the mainstay of their diet>>>AND it matters not if they are poisonous or not!

Wow, the claws on that thing are incredible! Looks like it would make an interesting mount. Congrats!

Don't know if protected in Texas? They are in WI. Seems like IL. allowed 2. I believe Kansas allows taking them. They make mighty big holes in farm fields. Other than being out state mascot, they seem to be a nuisance.

Good looking Badger there. ;). They can sure tear up the fields on the ranches and most ranchers
appreciate it when you shoot them. I have killed a bunch over the years but not too long ago found
out that there is a season on them here where I live...(which to me makes no sense). We can still get
permission from ranchers to shoot them when we see em...:D

I was out hunting P'dogs in WY and had the privilege of videoing a badger going after a p'dog in his den. The badger dug and dug until success. She grabbed the p'dog shook it violetly to kill it. Then she cleaned herself getting the dirt out of her ears and then took the harvest back to her pups in her den. Very cool to see.

Badgers make a very cool full body mount. Very unique animal and coloration.

This is what we are planning on doing with her. I just dropped her off yesterday at a taxidermist that has done badgers before. I don't want to screw up this once in a life time thing. My dad is 74 and has hunted Texas most of his life, and has never seen one. MY son is 14 and already has shot one. Go Figure.

That would have been fun to watch.

That will be a very cool mount. Be sure and post a pic when it is mounted. One of my personal favorites for a mount.

What part of Tx was it taken? Just curious

Funny old world, here in GB that would land you six's months in prison (highest sentence) and the removal of both shotgun and firearm certificates, with very little chance of ever getting them back.

MarkT, we’ve got a prairie dog town on a neighbors place across a county road. One evening I was driving down that road and a badger was crossing it with his prize full grown dog in tow.

Here in MI can take one/season w/ fjur harvester license-shoot/trap.

Son and I have caught 3 in the last 5 or 6 trapping seasons. They are real diggers and love to eat skunks. I have heard they will borrow i nto a skunk den and eat till there are no more, then find another den??

Incredible good photo!!!! I have seen a mommy badger excavate prairie dogs in Wyoming. After some time she came back and collected some of the dead prairie dogs that I shot, she had her mouth full with 3-4 dead p dogs. I have heard of badgers running off coyotes, like one against a few. When my wife was a teenager a badger came up the back door of their farm house and scared her, her mom, and sister so bad they did not leave until their dad returned from farm work. The badger was hissing and snarling, but not to be seen again. At one time, or possibly, now badgers are classified as "fur bearers" in Wyoming and protected. I like badgers and cats and won't shoot either. Just joking around, I sometimes mention to outdoor sports that I would like to have a pet badger just to see their reaction.

Sure looks like a 3-15 SWFA.

They are proctected here in WI. Not exactly sure why. Just the way it is.

A friend of mine shot one in TX when he was on a deer hunt down there. Got it full body mounted and it's in his house now. It gets all kinds of attention in a WI home, especially on game day!!
