This weekend is Michigan youth hunt. Took the kids, ages 14, 14 and 12 on a camping/hunting weekend. I was sitting with my 14 year old daughter yesterday morning, right at first light we had a faun walk out of the bean field right up to us and hung out about 10 feet from us for 15 minutes. It was scared off by a bunch of baby turkeys we watched the turkeys while the sun came up. We saw a few more does with fauns. The fauns you couldnt see them except when they would jump through the beans.
About 8:15 my daughter spotted a buck. I got my eyes on it and she said "what one is bigger?" I could only see the one, she was sitting on the taller stump. I kept peering through my glass and then I saw the main beam sticking up from the beans, I said that second one is an 8 and definately bigger than the 6. We waited to see the body of the 8 then the 6 walked to the edge of the field and stood broadside it was a perfect set up 110 yards would have been a chip shot for the 357 Max contender off a camera tripod. I told her she could send it if she wanted, she decided to wait. The 6 kept standing broadside for forever and the 8 wasnt giving a shot. Then the 6 stepped into the woods. The 8 bounded after and stopped briefly quartering towards us at 125 yards. She sent it! The 150gr Cutting Edge Raptor hit it like a bolt of lightning and it dropped. I said "you got it!" She said "I know dad I watched it drop in my scope"
She hit it just behind the front left shoulder taking out both lungs and exiting where you see the blood in the pic. Very happy 14 year old! Now shes relaxing at camp with grandpa while the rest of us hunt
