Curtis Axiom Actions ???

The actions are quite different, do not base your choice on a couple hundred dollars. The defiance is a 2 lug and the Axiom is a 3 lug. The bolt lift is shorter on the axiom and will give more scope clearance. clearances are looser on the axiom, Defiances are actually quite tight. You have integral lug and bases on the defiance vs pinned lug and pinned on changeable bases on the axiom. You can run the axiom faster with no bolt bind at all. It will come down to what your after in an action.

It will come down to what your after in an action.

I think this is probably the better information to start with when selecting an action from the all the fine examples available now. Sit down with a piece of paper and write out the line items necessary for the build. The add in the items you would like to have and finally write down the drawbacks for each action design. I realize that most of us have a very slight tendency to forgo processes such as this but believe me, it can help a lot until you get the pros and cons in your head. You'd be surprised at just how much information falls out of your ears after reading articles and reviews...

I have used several hundred Defiance actions in all of the flavors available and I will likely continue when their product matches the requirements. But I have also been expanding into using the Curtis actions recently and I find them to be just as viable albeit for different types of builds. That's why I say that it depends on what you need as opposed to others like, except for the client, of course.:D

Enjoy the process!

Kelbly Atlas Tactical is another action to consider. Great price on this as well. Around $950 from bugholes.com

I've been running a couple of the Curtis Axioms the second half of this year. I love them for the type of positional prs type matches I shoot. I've shot 4 matches with them and was lucky enough to finish at the top in half of those. They are slick and fast and I've not had any hiccups out of them yet. Plus, Chase and Joel are great, down to earth guys. If you have any detailed questions, feel free to PM me.

I used the Curtis 3 round AI mags: perfect. Have not used his action, but clearly he builds good stuff. I use Defiance actions (8 or 10 of them) exclusively now and they are fantastic. Integral rail and recoil lug are very important IMHO. A pinned rail is good to go but still inferior to an integral rail. Two lug vs 3 lug is not a big distinguisher accuracy-wise. Bolt throw is shorter for 3 lug, but bolt lift is easier for 2 lug: wash. A zillion 2 lug actions have set records. 3 lug actions are less common. Defiance is my choice.

I have handled or owned most of what’s out there.

I think the Axiom feels better and I like the straight bolt handle a lot. Super smooth and super fast.

I have never felt that defiance was a viable option, because next to a Bighorn, they lose a lot of their appeal.

I’m pretty much Bighorn for life at this point.

For a bench gun, yea there are better options... but I’m a recreational shooter anyway.

If I wanted a super tight, precision action (the kind made for shooting tiny groups at 1,000) I’d get a BAT.
