Looking for Suggestions on a Build

After a lot of looking and fretting I'm going to build a straight up, no frills, 223Remington. At some point, if I find it lacking for my purposes I'll re-chamber it to an AI.

As in, short mag?
I'm going to go regular old 223Rem on this one. I'm pretty excited about it. I think everyone should have a .223 bolt gun in their stable.

No not a mag - it is a .223 shortened by about .625" it has good speed, and decent range. You can read about it on Savage Shooters forum - just search .223 short and you find it. Certainly nothing wrong with a plain .223 either

Look into either a 6mm based on a necked up .223 or the 25-45 Sharps. Either has enough improvement over the parent round to provide clean kills on deer size game. I'm NOT a fan of using a 223 on deer, regardless of how much bullets have improved! I know you wasn't asking about specifically deer hunting cartridge, but the option is there if you do.

Any of these would be excellent with your boltface. I would lean toward the 6x45 since I don't have one yet, plus, SPS has 55 gr 6mm for $6/100

IIRC, the AI will need to be set back a thread to clean up the chamber, just in case you get that far. Always something to think about.
