6 Dasher or 6 Creedmoor

Sizing dies for the Dasher can be had from Harrells for a very reasonable price, you'll have to send them a couple pieces of 3 times fired brass.

How do you fire the brass 3 times if you don’t have dies?

I am working on getting a 6 Creedmoor dialed in. It will easily push a 106gr EPS at 3100+ with room to spare but best compromise for precision and reasonable velocity seem to be in the 3025-3050 range (26" barrel). Nice to have easily made Lapua brass with a pass through a die although a couple of players are considering making 6 Creedmoor brass (beside Hornady). I suggest getting at least a 0.140-145" freebore or a little longer if you want to shoot 115's. My 0.145' FB will put the boat-tail/bearing surface junction exactly at the neck/shoulder junction which causes some issue. By the time I get 1000rds I suspect I will have effective FB for the 115 DTACs to be completely in the neck.

In all the 6mm’s I’ve owned the sweet spot seems to be (with 105 VLD’s and Hybrids) around 3,000-3,030 fps. This has been my experience in 6XC, 6x47 Lapua, and 2 different 6 Creedmoors. However, there are some good higher nodes as well.

I get 3000 FPS using 31.5 grs VV N150 and 105 Hybrids and same velocity using 110 SMK and 32.5 grs N150... I am sure 3050 is doable in my barrel, but it shoots best a bit below 3000...have 7.5" Bartlein, .236", 4 groove, 32" long, .135" FB...hope it helps.

At what cost to barrel life?

From what I have looked up on barrel life on 6 dasher and 6 creedmoor, they are both about 2,000 rds. I would think you would get way more barrel life in a 6 dasher because you are burning 10 grains or so less.

Don't think that's true at all. You might get guys saying they run their 6 Creed to 1800 rounds because that's when it completely died, and you might get guys saying they pulled their Dasher barrel at 1800 rounds because their standards were more stringent.

If you hold both to the same standard the Dasher is going to last a lot longer. As you pointed out, it's 10 grains less powder.

Buddy of mine is a top PRS shooter and switched from 6 Creed to Dasher. He was pulling his 6 creed barrels at between 900-1300 rounds and said he had to do a lot more load tweaking during that lifespan (ie add powder, check velocity, etc). The Dasher is lasting a lot longer and is holding a load much more consistently.

Real world expectations for barrel life in PRS shooting would be likely 1200 rounds for a 6 Creed and 1800 rounds for a Dasher. I ran my last Dasher barrel in a match at 1900 rounds earlier this summer and took 4th with it. Had to add 0.2gr to bring velocity up a touch, but shot very accurately otherwise.

To your earlier question about the Sierra 110's, I would say you should expect 2900-2920fps from a Dasher with a 26" barrel. Ballistically superior to a 105 Hybrid at 2975fps, with a touch more recoil.

Thanks guys for all of your help. I'm planning on using the R5 chasis with the Competition Machine mags. I don't think feeding the Dasher rounds will be a problem. Are there any other benefits of using the BRX instead of the Dasher? I also plan to run 105 Berger Hybrids in this gun. What is the suggested freebore for the Dasher?

they'll both feed fine in the R5, you wont be disappointed with either one
