30 BR 118 gr Ojive Bullet Question

Shynloco

You can lead a horse to water, but ........
Evenin all,

Got a question about the 118 gr 30 CAL FB 9 Ojive (EPS Bullets) and the 118 gr 10 Ojive (BIB Bullets) and how they compare to the 115 gr Berger 30 Cal FB's in terms of the OJIVE measurement on a 115 gr Berger? In other words, is the 115 Berger closer to a 9 or 10 Ojive bullet made by those bullet maker I listed above? I've been shooting the 115's in my 30BR as I've found its next to impossible to buy less than 500 bullets at a time and I can't even get on Randy R's (BIB) ordering list if I wanted to. SO I may just order a few hundred from EPS. But other than their weight, just wanted to know how the 115 Berger compare OJIVE wise to either of the 118 gr bullets. Hope that's not too confusing. Thx!

Alex

Try Ronnie Cheek. He has great 30's as well.

Yes thx! I'm down to my last 15 rds using his 9 ojive bullets and they do shoot nicely. I bought about 100 from another member several months ago and they are almost gone. But I also have 600+ Berger 115's, hence I need to know the comparison to the BIB's, ESP and now even Cheeks bullets...Ojive wise. But thanks for the response.

If you have 600 + Berger's why not just load a few and shoot them. Don't worry about the ogive comparison, either they meet your accuracy standard or not.

That's exactly what I've been doing since my rifle was built two years ago. I just want to know of there is anything better....like below 1's that I can shoot in my rifle. Hence the question that I'm not getting answered!

Alex. The ogive for the Berger 115's is probably around 7&3/4 to 8. Eazor's 116 gr 8 ogive would probably be close to the Bergers.

Thx Jim...that's what I was looking for. I want to give the 9's a try and see if they group any tighter. I sent Ronnie Cheeks an email for an order a few ago. Can't get Randy's 10's and I keep missing them when someone has them up here. I wonder why? (LOL)
Take Care!

Larry Moore of Hillbilly Bullets makes a very nice 7-3/4 ojive 118 gr 30. They are my favorite. He also makes a 10 ojive.

Thx goes to Randy Robinett for sending me a PM in response to my post. I made his list. HOORAHHHHHHHHHH! And so can you. The drought it over.

EPS makes a 10 "O" that shoots great out of my 30 Major. He doesn't offer them on the site but he still has the press and may make a batch for you. I will be ordering some more for myself soon.

Thx for that info. I'll definite keep that in mind. Also just saw another maker's name pop up (10x Bullets) which I wasn't aware of. As of now, I have three bullet makers prepping shipment for me so I'll have 7's, 8's, 9's and 10's coming that weigh either 116 or 118 gr for testing in my 30BR. But the info on EPS is much appreciated.

You can forget about the 10X bullets Alex. PM me and I'll tell you why.

I make 30 caliber bullets in 7 and 9 ogive on jackets of .925" and 1". There is about .080" difference in the length of the shank between the two ogives. I use J4 and Barts (Hines) jackets. They shoot very well.

Dave,
Much thanks for your input and information. In fact, this info is good so as to get different perspectives on how certain bullets performed in different (well established shooters) in their particular rifles. And that is so even when speaking with various bullets makers about what they recommend I use in my rifle. And my rifle is simply built around a Remington 700 short action that has not been trued or blueprinted. In fact, I'm amazed how well it shoots considering I recognize this is not a true Precision Rifle that Dave and others shoot with and base their recommendation on. My rifle has a 1: 18, 24" Kreiger barrel and has a Jewell Target Trigger set to 6 oz. The reamer that was used to chamber my barrel was a PTG Robinett with a 0 Freebore (as best I remember) that belongs to a friend who loaned the reamer to my Gunsmith.

In fact, just this morning I spoke to Randy Robinett on the phone for at least an hour in discussion seeking his opinion as to which BIB bullet I should use/order in my rifle. And Randy was so GRACIOUS to go into great detail about how his bullets are made, jacket sizing, tuning the different bullets, the extensive testing and repeated testing done to make sure a shooter was getting ultimate performance out of a BIB bullet based upon the barrel/twist they were shooting. And Randy suggested that I strongly consider going to the 112 gr 7 Ojive bullet instead of the 118gr long jacketed bullet. Even when I ordered various bullets (all in small quantity for testing- 125 ea weight) Ronnie Cheeks suggested I try out his 7 Ojive, 118 gr 9.25 Jacket in addition to a 10 Ojive 118 gr 9.25 Jacket that I initially ordered. So I have that same small quantity coming from Ronnie Cheeks being made for me to test.

And certainly not to leave Bart Sauter out of the mix of info, spoke to Bart on the phone yesterday as well to get his take on the Barts bullets I should use. And after a detailed discussion, I opted to order (in a small quantity/100) his 118 gr Xout 8 Ojive bullet to test @ 100 yds.

Folks make no mistake, I truly appreciate and am gratified, that some of the top bullets makers in the country, as well as serious shooters of the 30BR (who compete against some of the best in the nation) have taken the time to share information and educate me in the possibilities and what it takes to shoot targets such as Dave posted above. Never thought that I would ever be so privileged to learn from these EXPERTS first hand, experiences that simply cannot get any better than that. To all you who have contributed to my education about the 30R, my sincerest thanks. Now can't wait to start the testing.

Thx for that info Michael. I was typing the above response to Dave Berg's comments when you posted.

Michael,
I certainly appreciate your info and I'll definitely keep you in mind. Right now I think I have enough bullets coming to test. If it weren't getting close to Christmas, I'd probably place an order with you as well. But we have 11 Grandkids to buy presents for (not to mention birthdays between now and then) and being retired and living on a fixed income, doesn't permit me to do all I'd like, finances wise. But THANKS nonetheless.
