SWITCH BARREL - What Caliber?

The Rad design are showing up on more rifles all the time. Seems to have a following with some F Class shooters. The high end Rad designs are hydraulic and great once you get them set right. The cheaper designs are coil spring and, as they say you get what you pay for. The hydraulic units can interfere with adjustable combs so beware.

The Rad and the Bump Buster are similar and both use industrial shock absorbers, like ACE. The difference is how they adjust lop. I've got a couple and I prefer the RAD. Adjusting them is a little quirky. You sometimes need to apply reverse logic as setting them up to tame down heavy loads and then shooting lighter/faster loads will not be softer. We use a lot of these shocks in machinery we build and sometimes bigger ain't always better. If you always shoot the same loads within reason they are good to go, if you are shooting a wide variety of loads they don't always, stay in tune, if you will.

The RAD is quite common on F Class builds. Ive shot a 284 win with one at the range. Felt like a 6BR or less. Rediculously suprising. Speedy is running them on his F class rigs too. I talked with him about it a few months ago. Cant remember the price to get one installed, I texted him this evening to ask again. Im gonna get one put on.. I think its an easy $500 installed though if I remember right.

Are they built to handle 5 times that much recoil I wonder?

I have a custom 338 lapua...

Heres the interesting fun part:

Whats another caliber or wildcat I can chamber up to fit the 338 lapua bolt face that would be "badass"...?

30/378 Weatherby
30-338 Lapua
338 Lapua
338/378 Weatherby
378 Weatherby mag
404 Jefferys
416 Rigby
416 Weatherby Mag
460 Weatherby Mag
470 Nitro Express

I want another barrel for this rig... those are just other calibers that fit, dont know about easy wildcats off them..

put the new 150gr 6.5 to work in that case?

Well'p, looks like I'll be trying the BB

Thank you all for the information.

BTW the original spelling of the necked dowm BMG retained it's Germanic roots...... I think the first Gunsmithing Kinks had it as, Eargeschplitzen Loudenboomer :) and my Olde German Gunsmithing Teachers Franz and Emma Achleithner rolled it out most biliously....
