Whats another caliber or wildcat I can chamber up to fit the 338 lapua bolt face that would be "badass"...?

30-338 Lapua has worked well for me. 230 Berger hybrid at 3100 fps shoots crazy flat and accurate with H1000. It was easy to form the cases and the brass is Lapua.

Those choices all look like an annuity to a orthopedic surgeon! Obviously recoil is not you concern, but of the few on your list that I have shot, the 378 Weatherby was brutal.

Sounds like a norma mag round or 338 lapua based round... either 30 cal with 230gr bullets, or 7mm with the 195s...

With the norma mag brass it looks like Id be pushing hard to get 3000+ with these bigger pills..

Plus 338 lapua brass is thicker... ie uta last longer...

Anyone have that computer software to calculate what a 195 berger would do with 98-105 gr of RE 33 or H1000? As a 7mm/338 lapua improved 40 degree?

I have heard of guys getting 3000 with a 300 in 338 lapua improved i think. Thats what i would do. Otherwise id try the 30/338 lapua inless i wanted an elephant gun then i would go with a 416 or bigger caliber

This is a fun game. I've got a large guncase with an action, 2 scopes, 2 stocks and 7 barrels so I'm wit' ya BUT...... you've been given some bad information IMO. For instance the 404 Jeffery is over 40thou smaller than your BF and the .470 is more than 50thou too big!

Hell im just kicking around an idea.. one of the post got me thinking tho, the R.A.D. buttstock recoil system would be a better first upgrade to this rifle, just to help make the 338 lapua more comfortable to shoot.

At 32lbs, this rifle still gets you sore quick

Theres a smith down in Texas that makes a 338-378 Weatherby 40 Degree Improved. Saw a fellow shooting 370 grain custom bullets at 2870 FPS. Funny thing is, he said it was his Pronghorn gun. It was a ridiculously non-practical rifle so that ought to do it.

I narrowed it down some, gave it back, and said I cant handle the recoil of this sob...

His gun was 26 pounds and had a gigantic muzzle break. Skinny little dude. Hardly moved when he pulled the trigger. Said it kicked like a 270.

The one i shot was a sporter barrel, no break, hunting rifle... light... it was horrible.

It would help if you gave the purpose of the rifle. LR BR? 1000 yard elk? LR tactical?

I had a LR tactical switch barrel built in 338RUM and 7RM. So, I would pick a 7 Allen mag I guess.

Ouch.... my 300WSM comp gun weighs twice that....

I build big 338's for hunting using ONLY big bullets from 285 to 300gr..... and I'm a recoil wimp. I'm juust OK with a 30-06 at 15ftlb recoil and a lightweight 338 makes 60ftlb.... so I rely heavily on muzzle brakes. I believe totally that one of my rifles fired without the brake would break bones. WITH brakes they're pussycats, softer than a 270.

I also believe that the man who can actually shoot well at much over 20ftlb recoil is rare. 25 is kinda' painful.....And I know only two people that routinely handle 30ftlb well. They shoot a lot of elk and plains game but have dedicated matching practice rifles so they target the rifles very little. I build rifles that I can enjoy shooting, makes for happy customers.

I'm testing all the cases I can find for my 338 project. Currently I have blown out 404's (kinda' like the EDGE, but different) Blown out Weatherby cases (375/378/460) and blown out 338 Lapuas. I've got 5 blown out 338 Lapua's in action weighing from 9 to 12lb loaded, scoped and ready to hunt. I've built them up to 16lb but that's getting hard to pack. (I also believe they kick just as hard if not harder...and the physics support this.) I don't have anything more than recoil pads on any rifles at present so I'm very intrigued by the RAD and BumpBuster systems, I hope to call makers tomorrow.....because I have another project that's simply kicking the SNOT out of me. My subsonic suppressed 50 project is making 35-40ftlb of recoil and muzzle brakes do nothing for it. I simply cannot shoot the thing, I'm at an impasse. Except for mechanical devices like these.

But they're made for shottyguns....no scope.

The RAD is quite common on F Class builds. Ive shot a 284 win with one at the range. Felt like a 6BR or less. Rediculously suprising. Speedy is running them on his F class rigs too. I talked with him about it a few months ago. Cant remember the price to get one installed, I texted him this evening to ask again. Im gonna get one put on.. I think its an easy $500 installed though if I remember right.
