##Anyone ever put a Picatenny Rail on a SAVAGE 99 older Action? ##

Want to replace the scope on my Old SAVAGE 99 , (built 1917) , in Savage 22-Hi Power. It has Baush Lumb Belvor 8 - 2.5x8 on it now. Scope is off , needs cleaned, anyone out there ever had their scope to , flake off inside. lens are covered in dark dusk. Who can clean them and re coat the inside?

Want to replace the 2-Pece bases with one , PICATENNY RAIL. IT IS DRILLED NOW ,BUT MAY HAVE , to be drilled and tapped.

Anyone ever done this or had one done? Your help, will be appreciated. All thoughts also.

Dave Brantner, davebrantnerwv@earthlink.net , call me 304-788-3637.

Leupold makes a STD one piece base for the older 99's. I have one and it is way better than the two piece weavers. I don't believe you will find a commercial off the shelf PIC rail

Prose, would you have a product # of this JR style base ?
I ordered one , #49995 STD SAVAGE 99 R. It is about 1/2" too short.

I know , leupold made one for my OLD 99 , however I cannot come up with The correct #.
Believe , REDFIELD made one to. Cannot find someone who has drilled & Tapped one. For either Lepold or Redfield. Some older gun smiths out there have this knowledge , do not know any.

Again any help, would be appreciated , and thanks. Dave Brantner

499995, that's the model I was able to use. You may have to look into a side scope mount for the holes you have (Ebay).

If that model doesn't work for you I would venture that your holes pre date "factory drilled and tapped" mounts which means you'll need someone to do the work for you.

As for your scope, call Bushnell, there is a good chance they will recondition it for you under warranty. Mine wears a 1.5x5x20 VX3 which fits very nicely. The two piece weavers were horribly misaligned, but the Leupold base worked very nicely with minor lapping. 1/2 MOA savage 99 in .308 win. Also wears a krieger barrel now too though.

There is a guy that works only with 99's. Got a website out there somewhere but I don't recall the specifics. Do not trust the average gunsmith with your 99 if it means a lot to you. And do not send it to Ahlman's in Morristown MN. They will ruin it.

There is a Savage 99 collectors thread on 24 hour campfire. A lot of knowledge on there.
