Another mass shooting. This time in Vegas.

No one implied responding from the ground. Attempting to use ANY weapon from that vantage point would be totally irresponsible.
This instance could have only been handled from the room. In that scenario, any weapon could have neutralized this demon, safely.

Toss in one or two tracers and no training is needed above how to operate the firearm. If you use iron sights most are calibrated for a distance.

Like you said no training is needed any idiot could pull that off.

Good thinking. You draw your 380 ACP, I'll put my shoulder to the door and bust open the lock, and then you charge into this guys room (filled to the brim with automatic weapons and who-knows-what-else including armed accomplices) so as to do the neutralizing.

Meanwhile, I'll be hiding behind the ice machine.

Watching the news they said he was shooting into the crowd . He was shooting DOWN into the crowd . First thing I would do is get flat on the ground . If I done that I would triple the chance of getting hit .

Criminals do not abide by laws. These cowards only act in killing fields. Gun free zones. It was mentioned here the hotel had already banned firearms. This poor lunatic must not have seen the sign, upon his check in. Or more accurately, he took comfort in the fact that his neighbors would not be armed, and a threat to him, but would be pissing their pants, and crying in the ice machines, instead of facing danger, to protect hundreds of others lives. Guaranteed if he thought for one second, that all the surrounding rooms were armed, this catastrophe would have never taken place.
Good thing our Military, and Police Forces, are not comprised of people like you.

Yes, I would have been one of the Many, to make that split second decision, to save innocent lives.

Very few Casino's and Casino/Hotels allow firearms. Alcohol and firearms don't mix well, and kicking down a steel door attached to a steel jamb with steel casing is a Hollywood thing:rolleyes:

After the first couple kicks, you'd probably get 50 rounds fired through the door in your direction and I'm sure those doors aren't bulletproof.

The guy that shot up the Republican Congressman practicing for a baseball game was also in his sixties. Hard to believe one could've spent their formative years in the early 50's and end up with this type of hatred of innocent people. Age has nothing to do with anything. Mental illness has always been there, and doesn't discriminate by generation. Shootings of this nature are the result of a combination of a particular genre of mental illness, a lack of humanity, and an idea that was picked up by watching someone else doing something similar on the news. The psychos of years past simply acted out in different ways, the ones of the modern era have watched mass shooters immortalized for decades now so this is the path they choose to take to fulfill whatever violent goal is inexplicably brewing in their sick minds. Before the shootings it was bombs, and when/ if guns aren't available it is just a different means. Regardless of the method they choose, the results are equally tragic and horrifying. Our modern reality of not being able to go out and have fun without the risk of encountering a person like this is unacceptable. I wish I lived in a neat little ignorant bubble like so much of the media, positive that the tools used this time are the problem rather than the maniacs wielding them... it sure would be easier to live in a world that is that black and white. But all politics aside, my heart goes out to the victims and their loved ones right now.
 
1. It doesn't take any "training" to get a rifle on a target the size of a large crowd of people at 300 yards from the 32nd floor.
2. No one not in the room with the shooter could successfully engage him with a handgun. The odds are just too small.
3. No one other than a professional is going to breach the door on a Vegas hotel room door. It took a breaching charge, folks.
4. So far, they haven't found that he had even a speeding ticket.
5. There are people out there that just lose it mentally and do something violent. Whether with a firearm, explosives, or a car, it's going to happen. The only question is what, if anything, to do about it.
6. It comes down to the age old question of freedom vs security and the balance point. We all have our thoughts on that.
7. Rushing to blame this on ISIS, liberals, or people that hate Jason Aldean's music is just incredibly premature.
8. So, just take a deep breath and wait for facts to appear and sort themselves out.
 
I guess it's only human to politicize or worry about future ramifications as a result of this. I think it is it in poor taste to post it. There are still bodies on the scene and families who have yet to hear the bad news.
Gentleman, please remember this and be respectful. It's a time to mourn those lost.
 
Well I just heard Hillary Clinton's predictable response to this shooting - her IDIOTIC and UNSYMPATHETIC (for the victims and their families) words. She once again proved why she lost the election and proved she is completely unfit to hold pubic office. To call her an "ASSHOLE" would be the understatement of all time. She lacks the ingredients of HUMANITY which most ordinary citizens possess. What a useless human being!

I also just heard the tape of the shooting and the opening salvo by the gunman. No questions it was an automatic weapon as the firing continued for at least 10 - 15 seconds which tells me he only stopped to reload. This guys (the media says) was 64 yrs old, a heavy gambler and an accountant by trade. I sure hope he didn't get this lunatic idea from the movie, "The Accountant" that featured all sorts of automatic weapons. But from having seen the worst of human beings for more than 30 yrs in LE, practically nothing surprises me, especially from the diseased mind of a pure lunatic. That type of person unfortunately lives amongst us and often keep to themselves and only become remarkable after they act out. All the Gun Control laws in the world will never prevent acts of terror such as this and unless LE has some advance notice, these horrible event will continue whether a nut job uses a gun, a knife or even a car to mow down people. But it takes someone REALLY sick and deranged, to want to hurt that many people in one setting.

So glad she isn't the president, and can't influence anything as much as she thinks she can. I feel bad for all the families that lossed loved ones. This kind of stuff shouldn't be happening in America.
