Lathe's not working, seeking advice

Did you set the parameters accordingly. I had a 115V to 208 3P TECO running a 1 HP 3P motor, that I had the run command, F04, programmed wrong and it did not spin the motor. Just follow the program and match to your set up.

I'm gonna have a go at it this weekend. I had my wife print out the instructions and will do my darndest to make it run.

As has been stated earlier, I have not tried running a VFD behind a surge protector. In 'theory', it should be fine, but before you spend a bunch of time trying to 'dial-in' your VFD, how about wiring around that surge protector and see if it makes any difference? Should only take 15 or 20 minutes, and it *might* save you a whole bunch of trouble.

Also, it appears there is no output frequency displayed on your VFD. Perhaps it was not powered 'on' when the photo was taken? If it was, that's not good.

It was not powered on. Good catch.

Just remember, when the Mrs asks , everything is fine dear , just fine . No it's not going to cost more money , of course I know what I'm doing , want to go to the movies this weekend ?
Changing of subject usually helps . If it's not movies , just say wow ,what did you do to your hair , it looks great .
And the last , no dear it's not my gun , I'm working on it for a friend .

Won't work. I'm a hairdresser. If she does something to her hair and doesn't tell me I KNOW I'm in trouble.

Check your programming. The unit is most likely setup for a external input for the start/ stop. You will need to go into the settings and change it for a manual keypad input. Then if the drive isn't setup for that particular motor, you will need to input the motor specs. This way the drive will properly monitor and protect the motor. In my opinion a rotary or a capacitor style phase inducer would suit your needs better.

Thank you for the suggestions. Much appreciated.

I agree with this. check the settings again including settings for emergency stop or kill stop. I love my vfd, I had mine down to 30 htz today so I could thread real slow. good luck

Spitfire is correct I have that same VFD on my 3PH drill press and you have to run some wires from the off/on switch on your lathe to the control panel on the VFD so it can tell the VFD when to send the power to the motor. If you call Teco and explain to them what you are trying to do with the VFD they will tell you exactly how to wire it up. I had the same problem when I wired mine up to my drill press and they walked me right through it. I have a little control box with a start/stop button and a potentiometer on it and it works good.

Good deal. Thank you.

Right now my kitchen floor it taking priority. Once that's done, I'll get back on turning this from a paperweight to a functional machine.

long40shot is also correct I totally for got about the start/stop key pad on the VFD and going in and programming the VFD for manual start/stop. When I was having my trouble with mine I was installing the external stop/start box and the potentiometer.

So, I fixed the VFD...

I bought a rotary. Works like a charm!

Thanks to all that offered advice and assistance. Much appreciated.

I'm running a rotary. Sometimes I feel like I missed the boat by not going VFD--I see it described as the best thing since sliced bread. My rotary is nice and quiet and powerful and runs both the lathe and the bridgeport. Glad to hear it is working for you. -Jerry

Is the VFD for sale? I might be interested depending upon what it is and condition.
