6.5x47 loads 120 BT and 135 Classic Hunter

If you aren't seeing pressure sure, every gun/chamber/barrel/powder lot is different. Hard to argue with a ragged hole group at a respectable speed though, let us know how it goes. Just keep an eye on it!

I know this cartridge hides pressure signs. I am going to give 38 gr Varget a try. If can get 2900 safely and accurately from a 23" barrel, I will be extra pleased.

37.4-37.7 is a know accuracy node for varget and the 123-130. Everybody I know loading for a x47 is using this load. I just got some 140 elite hunters to try for deer season, I'm going to back down to 37 and work up to 37.6.

37.5 Varget was a dramatic improvement over 37gr for me. As this is a hunting rifle , I am going to chase a little more velocity. If I cannot get there safely and accurately no problem.

Have you tried the 135 Classic Hunter?

I use 39gr of varget with the 140 gr elite hunter
Damn

I have not. Shot a few deer with the 130 hybrids at 2880fps last year and all dropped but I did not get an exit either and all were >150lb deer. I'm hoping the 140's at 2775fps will give me an exit especially if I'm shooting at a 250lb deer. I've found with Berger or Amax bullets if you use heavy enough bullets to get the SD(sectional density) of the bullet up as close to .300 as possible and keep them under 2850 fps I have better results on deer less than 400 yards and still have enough energy for longer shots.

I used to exclusively hunt whitetail with nosler accubonds. They would cause massive internal damage and leave a tiny exit hole. This is fine but every deer ran. Switched to HVLD and ballistic tips. Result was no running and big exit wound. The deer which ran with the accubonds never went more than 75 y. I am not likely to go back to the Accubonds but will miss the confidence I had with them for a close or quartering shot. It looks like the Ballistic Tips are being discontinued. I am certain that they will be replaced with something similar.

Tried a few last weekend
Rifle is stiller predator action 26 inch bartlien 1/8.5 twist in an hs stock.my 2 go to powders are varget and h4350.

I've been shooting 130 Hybrids with 37.4gr of Varget. Tried some 140 Elite Hunters today and 37.0 and 37.2 both shot about 1/4" for 4 shots jumping .005. I'm going to load 37.1 and call it good for deer season.

I've found a great load with my #10 contour 1:8" finished at 26" using 37.2gr of Varget with CCI BR4 primers. I've seated the 139gr Lapua Scenars inside Lapua brass at .010" off the lands. The speed I'm getting is 2813fps. This load stays supersonic to just 1300 metres and holds .43moa. I will do some "tweaking" to see if I can improve it some.

I know it's not a popular combination, but it shoots very well. YMMV.

IMG_0704.JPG Found my hunting load for the 120 BT. Going to refine one for the 135 Classic Hunter. 38gr Varget @2900 w/no pressure signs. Not bad from 23" barrel.

I shot 1,000 123 Scenars from a 28 inch 5R Bartlien,,10 reloads each for 100 cases running 42.8 grs H4350 at 3050 fps,,after that I used those same 100 cases to shoot 1,000 more 130 VLDs with 41.5 grs H4350 at 3,006 fps,,

both loads shot less than .25 at 100 and between 2-3 inches at 600 but past 600 the 130 VLD load was insane accurate,,it would stay on a 10 inch gong at 1030 and the 5.5x8 inch plate at 1030 was a tough shot but it would do it if you could catch a steady wind for a few minutes,,

Congrats - nice clover leaf group , what brand 120BT ?

Nosler.

I am trying some 135 Classic Hunter loads Friday. If can get a similarly accurate load up to 2800 fps. I will probably choose to go with the CL Hunter this season.
