Dental implants and shooting

What kind of downtime can I expect after this procedure yesterday? The implant is on the offside cheekbone at the nose. Tooth #10 cracked off at the roots that had a crown with root canal. The root split and had to be surgically removed. Actually it was chiseled out with a hammer due to the apparent 25 years after the root canal the bone hardens at the tooth instead of cushioning it. Or my interpretation of the procedure.
This morning I feel like Choo Choo from Justified connected on the front of my face. Obviously I need to ask my dentist about returning to shooting. I have a followup this morning. But I'm most interested if anyone having this done can shed some light on it. Applesauce and protein drinks are on the menu for a few days anyway.
Shoot straight and make that first shot count. Thanks.
As a dentist implants can vary so much according to several factors. You just do not need to follow advise from others even if they have good intentions. Listen to your dentist!!!!!

Enabler alert;

Get a .308 cast bench rig.Cheapy 6-18.Work on your loading paying particular attention to run out.

.002" over on bullet diameter.

Then work on your bench technique.Zero recoil. Can use a "shot out" brrl.

So, does that make it "Dead man chewing"?:D;)

In a way it does. However purchasing a cadaver bone (brittle like an egg shell) and soaking for a bit in a saline solution makes it pliable and workable. (that's how they work with it)
And a newer approach soaks it in your own stem cells which I guess makes it YOUR bone.( no longer the deceased's) However, while costly, healing time is reduced up to 75%.

Mine took over 8 months to complete. First was extraction and then bone packing and wait and wait and wait and then the implant. Solid, his guarantee for life (his or mine not sure).

Money aside, that is where the use of stem cells really shines. A reduction, as I said earlier, of up to 75% in healing time is really amazing. Bone resorption is common as we age and as in the OP's case where removal of the root will take pieces of the jaw bone with it, we have to have 'something' to anchor the fixture to......have to replace that missing bone.

"...his guarantee for life (his or mine not sure)".....
not sure it really matters if you think about it!

Thanks guys. I got a good report from my dentist. There was zero contact with other teeth and the outlook is good. Very sore still with a headache. I can't remember ever being hammered in that fashion. They actually had to chisel the root into pieces to break it off the bone. Of course I opted out of the anesthesia route and went with a local instead. I about regretted that wwhen I heard them say "bigger hammer". mmm

But anyways its good to hear no one has suffered any shooting problems. My dentist did the ol' nose scrunch and grimace when I asked about shooting. Said if I can do it balancing a dixie cup of water on my head have at it, in a week. Otherwise no shotguns and no bush hogging until my 2 weeks checkup. Then maybe... a light caliber.

I had carried a stack of gun magazines for the lobby reading rack since all they had was girly stuff. After all the poking and prodding, upon leaving I noticed two people in waiting already reading the gun rags. I am expecting to see them in 2 weeks or questions will be asked.

carry on powder heads...

Got to blast a few squirrels with the 22 auto. JMM, I'll be sure to tenderize them so you and your man can chew. It's implants not inbreds.

Thanks Yote, didn't mean to make light of your dental condition, I can definitely relate, but sometimes my warped side comes out and I can't (or cain't) resist. Chewin on them squrruls with all that lead in um is whut got my teeth like that in the furst place... Jim

Hi Yote, I sometimes forget that others don't have rhinohide ... not a smith, have some machining experience. I tend to follow the motto " why spend 10 bucks on something that i can make for 100", but I like making stuff when I have a chance. Jim
