A pile of vermin

Wow I would love to kill that many in one day!! Heck I'd love to get half that!

Welcome Maynard, Sure does look like someone had some fun.I wish my work was like that. Big ones and little ones. Nice Shooting...

I'll guess that is in Ohio? I'll also guess that this is a protected area that you got permission on such as golf course, business grounds, airport, etc. What ranges ..from what to what. Congrats.

VaRandy,

This is indeed in Ohio, NW Ohio more precisely. It was a cut alfalfa field that had been left for two years and the groundhogs had taken up residence in the field. There was also a soybean field to the left of that tree line that was infested.

I've been hunting the same land for 20 years now and this was the worst infestation I've ever seen. Most shots were under 250 yards but we did have a chance this year for some 500+ yard shots.

Here's a pic of my brother-in-law joining the 500 yard club with a 572 yard shot with the Savage PC10:

I have a fast twist 22BR and am working up a RPR .243 for longer range work.

What's your favorite recipe?

The Savage action fast twist 22BR using VVN540. 75 grain Amaxs, Lapua brass and CCI BR primers is bad medicine on most anything.

It's a Fred Moreo, SharpShooter Supply built rifle that I've had since 1999. It's an absolutely wonderful rifle.

I'm also very fond of the Hornady 53 grain Vmaxs in the PC10. I try to push everything as fast as possible and still maintain accuracy.

Hello friends, glad to be here.

Here's a pic of some work we did this year.

I used a Savage PC10 pushing Hornady 53grainers with VVN133 @ 3420 fps

That's more GH than I have seen in many years around Holmes and Coshocton Co., Ohio. They used to be everywhere. I see more in the city. I used to get 2-3 every Saturday all Summer long.

Yeah, same situation next county over. Mind herding some of those NW 'hogs this way (central OH), Maynard? :D
Looks like you're getting good performance from the high-BC 53 V-Max. I just hit on a good load with them for my .22-250 Savage FV with similar-burning Benchmark powder. In a '250, and with a 6" longer barrel, I'm hoping be able to smoke some groundhog-killing coyotes at fairly-long ranges.
