Antelope bullet

I'm sure but there accuracy track record is second to none. Again, accuracy IS whats most important.
Tell that to our boutique bullet makers, and those shooting them;) You can blame a faulty shot on whatever you choose to. Accuracy comes from the person squeezing the trigger. The best bullet on earth is not going to make a mediocre shooter a great shooter.

When the very first nosler ballistic tips came out, they were the rage. Later on they were blamed on surface explosions.

I killed two bull elk with a 7 Mag with the first run of the 140g Nosler ballistic tips at 3250 fps, distances from the animals were 150 and 200 yards, both running shots, quartering broadside.

Both bulls died on the spot, one bull kicked once, the other kicked three times with one hind leg.

I got lucky and led the animal to where the bullet would impact behind the shoulder, pure luck on a running off hand shot, twice. A club near me held running deer matches and shots were between 100-200 yards, and this I attribute to my success.

Neither bullet penetrated the animal, but the gut sack was blended well.

Today, I would shoot a 160g accubond or partition in the 7 Mag.

What ever bullet you shoot, place your shot or don't pull the trigger. If you know that your bullet has limitations, then live with those limitations, especially on running shots, and quartering shots.

Most of use live in a kind of retrospective falsification of how good a shots we were when we were in our twenties.

Practice, Practice, Practice....know YOUR limitations!

Right on brother and we obviously all know guys that do it every year. I'm thinking the guys here on this site go the extra steps to insure the best outcome no matter what bullet they use.

View attachment 1018259 This is a Nosler Partition from an antelope that I shot quartering in at 525yds (hunting partner used a range finder plus paced). Bullet entered his left shoulder and passed all the way through to his right haunch just under the skin.

Tell me how a Nosler does not perform at long range..
For big game I ONLY use Nosler Partitions.. I have never had a failure.
I shot a doe last year slightly quartering at 350yds. Sliced through her ribs and exited her neck near her front shoulder. Sliced her ribs open and dropped her entrails on the grass..
As for Mule deer and Elk.. Partitions have been nothing but killers for me.. I do my job and they do the rest..
I have killed a number of big game animals and respect them enough that I would never use a target bullet.. Why would you use a tack hammer to drive a 16d nail? Use a real hammer when you need the job done..
Nosler partitions are all I shoot when hunting.. And yes you can use SMK's to hunt but why use a bullet that wasn't intended for hunting? I live in Antelope country. Wyoming. I have killed a butt load of em. All with a 243 and 95 Nosler partition. They are not a tough animal to kill.. It's your choice so make it right.

They work.

I was perusing through here and saw some other threads pertaining to akin subject. I post here because it seemed folks were staying on a fairly sane coarse.

Ok, maybe I am stupid or hard headed, it's possible, I have been accused of both on numerous occasions.
WHY the need for a "bullet" for antelope, whitetails and mule deer?
All are not that hard to "harvest" when said .22-33 caliber bullets are placed in a proper spot.

Myself, I would see it more as a thing with what part of the country your in than the game.

I lost a lot of respect for the .243 a couple of years ago hunting in a some what windy part of the state.

I am turning more towards 300 WM and 300 WSM and a 180. I find it to perform on a some what more predictable basis.

Play nice gents, I am pretty sensitive, lol, NOT.

Don't anger him. He'll steal your wheel weights.

I save all the catalogs, and magazines that show up here and put them in a cardboard box. When I get a box full (18 inches or so) I stand them on end, tightly pack them and shoot them with different bullets to see how they hold up. It's a tough test for any bullet, and I do not soak the books first. A few days ago I asked about the 85gr Sierra 6.5, hp, and got the usual differing opinions. At 50 yards with a mv of 2783 it penetrated 5.5", and did not expand much if any for the first four inches + -. The last 1.5 inch or so expansion was around inch or so. The only piece left was a part of the jacket that weight 30 grs. Where and how I hunt, I would not hesitate to shoot a deer with this bullet. Try this test on various bullets you use, you may be surprised at the results. I will ad that my test is not the end all bullet test, as I know there are many others. Barlow
