Scope choice for new Anchutz 2013 BR

Need your advice for selecting the right scope for a new Anchutz 2013 Benchrest 22LR with a 690mm barrel. I'd bought this to start shooting 50 and 100 yd. benchrest matches at my club.

Also, what's the best choice for bases and rings to fit the Anchutz dovetail receiver configuration? Any ammo recommendations to start with?

Thanks,

Tooter

It's hard to go wrong with a T36 Weaver. For rings you can order BKL 257 Highs or if you want some really deluxe benchrest rings call up Kelbly's and order some of their single screw rings machined to fit the Annie dovetail.

As for ammo right now the gold standard is Eley Black box. You can try some of the lower priced stuff like SK or Wolf. Lapua Center X also does good in some guns. For my 2013 nothing can match Eley Black Box.

Where are you located ?

Rayjay,

Thanks for the PM feedback. I appreciate you setting me straight.

I just received a set of Kelbly's Annie scope rings and you're right, they are robust, flawlessly machined and nicely finished.

Thanks again,

Tooter

I'll second the T36 as the best bang for the buck. the only problem I have is my granddaughter uses mine and I'm stuck with a Leupold 36x. For benchrest, more power is better. 36x is better than the 24x. The Weaver has good optics and 1/8 minute adjustment allows precise adjustment.

I have a 2013 I use for BR with factory 690 barrel.
I found the Centre X best bang for bucks with Midas + just that bit better so far. Elley not doing it in my rifle.

Got the Kelby rings and had good experience with the T36 but moved up to a March 36-55 when I was chasing more magnification.

Been hearing a lot of "gumbling" about Eley here of late..

The Weaver also, but High Burris Signature Rings with inserts. Never will scratch the scope in case you want to sell.

Burris Signature rings. You may run out of lowering the POA with fixed rings at short distances. With these rings, you can adjust up to +/- 40 without touching the turret.

I don't want to tell you how many rounds of Eley Black I have shot in my 1913a until I found the right speed for my rifle. It was a craps shoot.

Doc, letus not promote internet BS until ou get out to a few matches, ELEY still dominates the world of rimfire BR and their ammo is not only good but widely available.
That said, Lapua has made great progress and won some major matches.
This is with the best lots......if you think you can source those.....good luck.
There is a gap between the great stuff and OK stuff but supplies are still fairly challanged.
Let us stick to actual facts.

i am not promoting anything.. i just regurgitating what i have lately heard.. yes.. they have been good. yes their bullet punches a "bigger" hole.. i am sure you know and understand what it is that i am typing there.. and that is coming from those that are way more experienced than i..
I totally agree that the buddies will take care of the buddies when it comes to good ammo.. let the others flounder! i have fun shooting, i am not going to be taking it really serious.. ie nationals and the like.. just keeping it local.. i prob will only shoot tues night where i am with the money matches.. as long as i can get my entry fee or close to it.. i will be happy.. But lately here in my area, there has been a lot of gumbling about the newer lots of Eley.. i can't say.. i don't shoot it.. can't get any of the good stuff.. i just know that my rifle does like Center-X and seems to like 328 m/s

You're absolutely right...... You can't say. And as an FYI the buddies helping buddies BS is just that, so while it's a free internet, etc. etc. blowing smoke about the secret ammo cabal......does it really help anything ?
There is a reason few really seasoned rimfire shooters participate in forums...." You gotta chop through a s..tload of chaf to get to the wheat". And everybody " heard" something from somebody rather than getting fact based first hand knowledge.

A friend had two of us pick up Eley Tenex 1072 on the way to the Tennessee state championship. For two days he couldn't figure out why the wind was giving him fits so I asked for a box to check. It turned out SD was decent at 6.5 but the ES was 35 and the AV was 1096!!! I called him back to let him know why the wind at 100 had its way with him. I've tested Eley Club and SK Rifle Match that measured about that well. If you want more facts, let me know.

Neat!!!!!
So the two facts I learned here are:
a. Learn how to test, like more than one lot.
b. Never go to a big match with untested ammo

This ain'nt rocket science here, but you can't be your own worst enemy.
Lastly 1096 or so can be just fine in wind, maybe your bud needs to practice in the wind more.

Seriously? D = Cd * A * .5 * r * V^2

Seriously? Nobody won a match by being in math club.
You know all that current Lapua comming on strong, winning some big matches ? You might want to see about where it lies on the speed chart there sport.
Some of the best ELEY comming down the pike over the last year has been between 1075 & 1100.
