Can a magazine box hurt accuracy

Ive often wondered about the effect of a fully loaded magazine having pressure on the bottom of a bolt. Some replaceable mags can be hard to seat when they are loaded to capacity. Just as some integral box magazines can, when loaded to capacity, put considerable pressure on the bolt.
If you'd like to test this, shoot some groups while single loading, and then shoot a group off a full mag. Check for shifts in POI.

I read on another forum that the Ruger m77 magazine box can be wedged in so tight that it can put pressure on the action hurting consistency and accuracy. Is this possible?

Definitely yes. When someone says they can't get a Ruger to shoot the first 2 items I check is for proper magazine box installation and proper torque and torqueing sequence on the action screws. Correcting this may not make it an excellent shooter, but almost always makes an improvement. JME. WD

What is the proper torque and sequence?

The only experience I had with it was with an AR15. I was trying to dial in ammo using 5 shots at a time. Almost always, 4 would be in a group and the last shot would usually way off in some direction. It wasn't me (I hope!), I was shooting 100 yards off a rest and the trigger was 4 lbs. I looked online and a few others had the same problem. I starting putting a dummy round in as the 6th bullet and it seemed to stop the last round flier. At that time I only had a couple of Cammenga magazines and they both did it. These all were shot with different loads on a couple different days.

Ruger tech told me... 95 INCH pounds on the front, 30 inch pounds on the rear and 20-25 inch pounds on the middle. The sequence front first then the rear and the middle last.

I take them down a little at a time to reach those numbers, but use the sequence they suggested. JME. Inch pound drivers aren't real easy to find, so good luck there. WD
