Difference Between Berger 52 grain .224 Target and Varmint Bullets

Both use the J4 jacket. The target bullets go through an extra point die to uniform a smaller point. The varmint bullets are usually a buck or two less per box.

Ive shot them both a lot. The varmint bullets tended to be more accurate for me too by a hair.. no reason to use the target bullets, the varmint 52gr shoot just target and critters. They work fabulously too on coyotes. Every single coyote I ever shot with the berger 52s just melted in its place.

I think I have some of these bullets I can sell you, I dont use them anymore as my 22-250AI wont shoot them as good. Save a few $$

Do the varmint bullets start out as target and then get sorted out? Jackets the same thickness?
If the .224 Target bullets are made like the the rest of the Target bullet line, they are made on the thicker target jacket, and the Varmint bullets are made on the original target jacket, which is a thinner jacket. The varmint bullet I believe also has a larger meplat.

So the varmint bullets are more explosive on prairie dogs?

I am shooting the target bullet right now and have shot the varmint in the past on woodchucks and coyotes.

I am using 4198 and 322. Not together!
Shoots bugholes.
