Well I Am Done With Them

The prototypes that is..

I am going to be making some more like the one on the left.. They can be broken down for storage. They are solid so that they will take some wind..

Nice job!! What did you make the vanes out of?

Keith
Keith,

They are made with corrugated yard sign.. natural black color.. i am not going to paint them.. The shafts are made from aluminum.. i am going to something a bit nicer than that! And thanks for comps

Are the arrows pointing in the direction you want?

I doubt if there is a convention for range wind indicators. Weather charts use"wind barbs" where the direction is shown by a line and the velocity by tick marks on one end of that line which look something like an arrow feather (but only on one side). The convention is that the "arrows fly downwind". In other words, the "feathers" indicating velocity are on the upwind end.

The large tetrahedrons used at some airports look something like an arrow head. They point upwind. Windsocks, on the other hand, are usually tapered and the pointy end points downwind.

Nice job. I made my own flags as well from parts purchased from local hardware stores.

Nice looking work. Where did you get all of your components to put them together?
I used a lot of stuff that i already had.. the stand I had for my basses.. but i don't play anymore.. the aluminum i already had on hand.. but the next ones will be made with 6061.. I am going to do them with double bearings in stead of one bearing.. with the single bearing and a brass balance weight, they are really sensitive.. i was watching them this morning, the tails were hanging down.. but the vanes were actually spinning in circles from the light eddies in the wind.. it was fun to watch actually! The delrin i already had on hand as well.. The way i made them, you can take them completely apart for storage if you want too..
