Time for a new chronograph Magnetospeed?

I have a Magnetospeed V2 and a Labradar. I have had no problems with either. I prefer the Labradar because I can set it up while load testing or or just practicing and get velocity readings on every shot. The only problems I've had with it were user error. (forgetting to arm it, accidentally bumping so it's not aiming at the target) and once when someone else was using one a couple spots over neither one was picking up the shots like it should, we changed the channel on mine and both worked perfectly after that. I've used it at times when there were shooters on both sides of me and it never picked up their shots. I've recorded as many as 65 shots in one session and it never missed one.

There is also the 2 box crono

It is Adam's invention of autotrickler fame

Quite a bit less expensive than the labradar

I have the magnetospeed. The way i use it works for me. Once load development is complete then i run 10 across the crony. Keeps me from chasing velocity and sd's during load development. I let the target tell me what the rifle likes.

I've got both the Labradar and the Magnetospeed. With the Magnetospeed you have to pay attention to the strap holding it on. Make sure it's tight and check it every couple of shots.

Never had a problem with the Labradar that wasn't my fault. Another thing I like about the Labradar is I can use it with pistols. Can't strap the Magnetospeed on the barrel of a revolvers!

This is how I do my load development too.

I have access to both, and from a load development standpoint I think the Labradar is hand downs the best thing since sliced bread. For me keeping an eye on velocity is key during load development. Unless you manage to get all your development done in one day, changes in tempature and weather can cause considerable swings in velocity with most powders. When I find a combination that shoots well, I need to know the velocity in that condition to better be able to see if I can replicate it next time out. I think it is a good idea to have some expectation of what max velocity should be as you work up through your powder charges to help keep you out of trouble as max pressure approaches. For me that means either setting up the sky screens or the Labradar and that is an easy choice.

Now David Tubb's setup with the magnetospeed hanging on a extension from his rail is pretty trick. I could see that as being a great solution for those with that type of attachment option.

Issues?????o_Oo_Oo_O

I have been using one for about 15 months, and I know about a dozen guys that are using one, if there were issues I think we would have found out about it by now, so I'm a bit lost.

swd, could you expand on the issue part? I'd like to know about it just in case.

Thanks,

Joe

I owned one and sent it back within a month. First and foremost issue is it fares poorly with small bullets. It can miss picking up shots with fast 22 cal and smaller. Forget anything over 3900 fps. Also I had to get up off my seat and walk around the bench every 3 shots to start a new series. If I shot larger bullets all the time I would probably still have it.

I'm in the market for a new chronograph. How is everyone liking Magnetospeed's? Likes and dislikes?
Also it seems all the dealers have the same price, which I assume is MAP. Are there any dealers with a better deal? Thanks.
May be worth having a look at Adams Two Box Chrony, if its quality and ease of use are anything like his Auto Trickler you will be in good hands, reasonably priced to.

Cheers Rushty
