I'm in the market for a new chronograph. How is everyone liking Magnetospeed's? Likes and dislikes?
Also it seems all the dealers have the same price, which I assume is MAP. Are there any dealers with a better deal? Thanks.
+1 Well saidI have used a Lab Radar quite a bit and the "issues" that are being propagated on the internet are by people who have never used one or dont know how to use one,,,there are some people who cant put a nut on a bolt,,,I am far from a "techie" and grew up playing with a cap pistol,,but,,the lab radar is just a piece of equipment that must be programed properly and used properly,,,if done so it will perform flawlessly and reliably ,,,,there was a shooter here on my range a few days ago who was verry aprehensive about a Lab Radar,,,I let him set one up (that I had previously used and had the settings properly installed) and he never had a shot that was not picked up and recorded with a Lab Radar,,,the best advice I can give to the OP is save your $$$ and get a Lab Radar,,,then read the instructions and talk with someone who has used one successfully and get it set up right and it will work !!!!,,once you have it working all you have to do is sit it down beside the gun and remember to "arm" it ...Roger
Thanks. I'm not concerned with doing load development with it attached. I probably should have done a search first..
It sounds like Lab Radars have their own issues and the Magnetospeed is much simpler which suites me fine.
There was a thread here maybe 2 months ago. More than a few complaints. Mostly about being very finicky at times if I recall. I'm sure you can find it in a search. I've never used one so I have no idea personally.Issues?????
I have been using one for about 15 months, and I know about a dozen guys that are using one, if there were issues I think we would have found out about it by now, so I'm a bit lost.
swd, could you expand on the issue part? I'd like to know about it just in case.
Thanks,
Joe
OP...there are threads on here and other places on the internet of guys that cant put a primer in the ctg case without issues,,,or champher a case mouth,,,or seat a bullet ,,,or clean a barrel,,,on and on and on,,,,the Lab Radar is no problem if you are smart enuff to use it,,,(and I ain't a Harvard grad,,,,),,,there is nothing down range so it can be used at a public range or organized shooting event,,,there is nothing to attatch to be bbl, that will cause harmonic issues and affect group size,,,all you got to do is aim it at the bullet path and have it programed for the velocity (air rifle..shotgun,,rifle ,,etc) of the projectile and tell it what you want,,,and let the lead fly,,,Roger...There was a thread here maybe 2 months ago. I've always used sky screen chronographs which can be finicky which is why I'm looking to get away from them.
Plenty of issues with the lab radar. Easily breakable, cost plus you have to buy a tripod in addition to the radar and make sure its substantial so it doesnt topple over with a gentle breeze, connectors are flimsy, doesnt catch shots, catches other peoples shots etc. Plenty of pissed off people out there.
The magneatos issues are less with the equipment itself but when/how that equipment is deployed. It can shift your group sizes and points of impact so it isnt good for collecting data while developing which is the lab radars biggest selling point IMO. I guess some people can manage to shoot the bayonet but that would require not checking to make sure you didnt mount it inline with the bore or not knowing to cinch the strap down and then screw it tighten it up as it state sin the directions.
I have the magneto speed v3 and like it but I only use it for end velocity numbers and not for development purposes. I think it would be nice to capture every shot but not 2x the cost nice. I got mine for right at 300 on some sale a year or two back. If youre patient someone like bison tactical could have a sale as they do periodically.
Baloney, pure and simple. Either you want to stir something up where there is nothing, or you've no clue what you're talking about. I'm leaning toward the latter circumstance.Plenty of issues with the lab radar. Oh Boy,
This sounds like a hatched job on a good product. All these supposed problems being reported none seem to be from someone who actually owns a Labradar and had the issue themselves. Its kind of odd.
I have put down range literally thousands of rounds using the Labradar and the only issue I've had was when I got my 7SAUM, and because it has a big blast, the Labradar would turn itself off. Once I moved it back a couple inches and 6 inches further away the problem went away.
I'm the mid-range director at Bayou Rifle in Houston and I know hundreds competitors and most have used the Magnetospeed or Oehler 35, now they all use a Labradar. Those that use the Magnetospeed do so only until the first time they shoot it and then they find the money for a Labradar. I have yet to hear anyone selling their Labradar because they liked the magnetospeed better. I wonder why is that?
Kindest regards,
Joe

I own both. I like them both, but much prefer the LabRadar.
