Best church fund-raiser ever.

The local Catholic church held a "draw-down" fund-raiser for a young woman who has lots of medical issues. Typical stuff, main event was the draw-down and they had a silent auction too, but as you walked in the door, there's this table with a Ruger bolt-action rifle as an extra drawing item. $5 per ticket. I asked what caliber it was and was told, "whatever is standard from Ruger. .223, .308, 6.5 Creedmoor". Local gun shop was donating the rifle and would order it in whatever caliber you wanted. I think every guy in the place bought at least one ticket. I bought two but sadly, it wasn't my day. I did pick up a CPR/First Aid refresher course on the silent auction. I'm overdue, it's been 10 years.

Our CC did that in the early 60's in California,(yeah I know...How things have changed!!) They had several items but, every single ticket for the rifle was sold. The tickets were $2.00 each. LOL. No, I didn't win either.

There was a fund-raiser a year or two back in Oregon, a suburb of Portland. The prize was an AR15 clone, I forget if it was a raffle or direct bid; but the result was a do-gooder (not a Catholic, he was an Episcopalian pastor) won it, for the purpose of publicly smashing it.

During the fall festival each year at the Catholic church my mother attends, there's a raffle on a Remington .243. One of the parish members is a LEO. He donates the NIB rifle, the proceeds go to the church. There's always a large number of tickets sold.

Baptist Church in the area encourages concealed carry and has a gunshow a couple times year.

Our local Catholic church use to be the same way. The Priest had an assistant that was one of our gun club members. Firearms were raffled off at the yearly Bazar.
About a year or so ago, a new Priest came in and that all changed. Our club member got transferred somewhere else also.

When I took hunter safety class as a kid, it was held in the hall of a local church. Yes this was over 40 years ago.

I've been involved with the Washington DFW as a hunter education instructor for about 30 years & during that time I've held classes and field courses in public schools, parochial schools, fire stations, churches, Utility district buildings, Federal fish hatcheries, gun clubs, private homes, even parking lots and sporting goods stores. There are a lot of people that are willing to provide the facility. All that's generally needed is a courteous contact and an explanation of the insurance coverage provided by the dept. and the exceptions in the law regarding "gun'free" zones.
