80 gr Berger FB twist ???

I picked up a couple boxes of the Berger 80 gr FB varmint bullets to try,,right now I have an 8 twist 6BR bbl on I can try but have a 13.5 twist 6BR bbl and a 12 twist 6PPC bbl I can twist on also,,

it says 12 twist on the box but I have been told they would shoot in the 8 and the 13.5 also,,the 13.5 seems a little slow but one guy been trying to get me to try them in it for a while and I may do it,,
IDK if the PPC case would get them going fast enough ..

I may shoot a few in all 3 just to get an idea,,

The 8 twist will work for sure, but accuracy may not be the ultimate you can get. 12 twist in a 6 BR will be fine too, and I suspect fine even in the PPC. In find in my 12 twist 6BR the 68 grain Bergers are much better for accuracy than the 80 grain Varmint. The 13.5 twist 6BR is going to be very marginal. Shoot some and see if you can make round holes. Generally slower is better for accuracy until you are too slow!

You could try this calculator at the link below, but I'm not sure how accurate it is for flat base bullets.

I really want the 13.5 to shoot them and decided to twist the 8 off and the 13.5 on and loaded 3 rounds with 30.5 grs VVN135 to see if they would hit the backer and I am almost afraid to say where those 3 rounds went but I will,,

taking the 8 twist off and putting the 13.5 on and not touching my scope that was zeroed with 105 VLDH and 30 grs Varget the first three 80 gr Bergers from the 13.5 twist are in a bughole exactly under the 1/8th dot in the 40x Leupold scope,,

I am gonna do a little tuning with this and see how it goes,,sure looks like they want to shoot in the 13.5

6BR zero freebore 13.5 twist Krieger .237 4 groove
80 Berger FB .010 jam
Fed 205 GMM
30.5 grs VVN 135

will shoot more and report back,,,,

I got up and shot the 80`s in the 13.5 before wind got up this morning,,started at 29.5 VVN 135 and shot 3 rounds each at + .018, +.015, +012 ,and + .010,,I liked the +.015 best and went back to that and loaded 3 rounds each at 29.0, 29.3 and had already shot the 29.5 so I skipped that and went to 29.9,,
after looking at the brass and primers from the 30.5 load I shot the other day I was hoping to not to have to go up that high,,it wasnt really hot but a little more than I wanted to have to shoot 130 rounds a day in what should be in the upper 90`s temp wise,,

the 29.9 charge with the +.015 seat depth shot 3 rounds through the same hole so I went back and loaded 10 of those and put the magnetospeed on to see how it looked there,,
through 10 rounds the high was 3120 and the low was 3105 for an ES of 15 and SD of 7,,
after all that I think I will load 25-30 rounds and shoot a couple UBR score targets and see if I can hit dots with it,,

Where's 29.7? Looks like it might be where you wanna be.

I just bought a few to see if they would shoot in the 13.5 twist,,I got enough to shoot a couple 5 shot groups at 29.7 ,29.9 and 30.1 if the 5 shot groups hold small I am gonna get more bullets and shoot them in a match,,
Is the Strategic Edge match gonna have a 300 yard agg? Should be just right for it. I'd like to be there but things are up in the air right now. I won't know until it gets even closer.

I shot a 100yd score match Saturday and shot a 249 12x with the 80's over 30 grains of varget about .005 in the lands in a 8 twist 6br. Missed by about 1/64" on the last shot. Damn 6 power scope lol

I shot some in wind yesterday and they started hitting in places I couldnt predict,,then this morning in no wind they were back to shooting the same hole,,
I think they are stabilized just enough to shoot in no wind but start knuckle balling in the wind,, a 13 twist would probably be plenty ..

looks like I will be shooting some 62.5 gr BT`s with 33.5 grs 135 this w/e ,,

I have shot them in a 14 tw with good results. I built my first custom action 6BR around a 12 tw Lilja and 80 gr bullets. http://www.6mmbr.com/Schronce600.html The Fowler are no longer made. Jeff pasted a few years back. Berger's shoot nearly as good. I would like to try the new Bart's. Try them in the barrels you have.
