AMP setting

Lapua 308 Palma turned to 14k neck thickness? Setting 72?

I can't find original manual and new updated list is confusing as I don't see my lot # listed. I didn't have my setting wrote down

When you turn it on, what program is it on? It should be the last one you used.

Unless you have the lot listed that takes a higher setting, you should be good on 72. If you don
I have been reloading my 284. Different setting.

Ahh. I am betting 72. The lot with thicker necks and heavier overall weight wasn't on the original list.

I have 500 pieces of the heavier lot that I am prepping for a new barrel.

Hmmm...My necks were turned down to 0.0135" and I was using 83.

I just noticed their updated settings page. I copied this from the site:

I just looked up the setting for the new Lapua Creedmoor brass.....setting 72. I extrapolated a setting based on the Palma converts and was using 82 for the new brass. I am likely over annealing them:rolleyes:.

If there is no hint of orange or red in a dark room you should be OK. Of course there are different degrees of annealing. More time less neck tension. Whatever works.

Did you send in sample brass for them to get the setting just right? If not Alex recommends Sending in several cases. If you did I've sent him an email and he told me what setting it was supposed to be on.

My point was what if you don't have the lot numbers listed?

ahh gotta y, sorry
you don't have any non turned neck bass laying around do you? measure that if ya do and go off that for which palma brass setting .015 or .0155, but i'd use the 72 setting just to be safe .. might be best to send a few in for them to test and get the right setting

Did you guys ever get any resolution on this?

I recently got my AMP annealer, and using Lapua Palma .308 Win brass turned to 0.014" neck thickness, for that lot it gives me a setting of something like 72. Other Lapua .308 brass, either Palma/SP or standard/LP, is in the 93-96 range. Fired it up, ran one through @ the 72 setting and it sure doesn't *look* like it did much good...

Monte I’m using 72 setting. As long as the lot number isn’t on the list for the other setting should be good. I’ll check my lot number tonight

Monte, get used to that... :-) Some brass (norma 6XC for example) will look like it's been through a nuclear fire. Some, like my 284 brass, barely shows any change at all. You can't judge an annealed case by looks, though people will try... :-)

Agree. My Lapua Palma looks awesome. My Norma 284 can’t tell it was even annealed.

Cool. I was just curious, as it seemed like all the pics I've seen people with AMP annealers put out all look perfectly annealed, nice and even colors in all the right spots. Didn't realize they varied as much in appearance as the torch-annealed ones seem to.
