Interested to hear from people as to what they consider a user friendly length for f class stocks. I have read that the PRT lowboy sometimes needs to be shortened to suit a shooter? I have one being made that is currently around 1100mm and wondering if that is a little long. I can use it fine on the rest but wondering if there will be any other ill effects of the extra length?

One of my rifles has a PRT Lowboy for FTR, and it fits me fine. No need to be shortened, in my opinion. If you are able, find someone local who has one and get behind the rifle and check for yourself.
Other variables to consider are the bbl length, and your LOP.
I'm currently using a GRS Precision X-Eater stock that's 880mm long. With the buttplate fully extended, it adds another 30mm - total 910mm. It's designed for F-Open, but mine has a rail installed on the bottom of the forend, which I use with a Joypod for FTR. I like the length of mine, but if it was 220mm longer (1100mm) it would still work just fine in the prone position. The only downside I can think of is how much I would need to stretch out my left arm to work the joystick on my bipod, or mechanical front rest if shooting F-Open.

I always hated when guys would cut the PRT off. Its what made them such a good design. Long forends help with weight distribution between the bags. Rifles that are front heavy will not shoot free recoil well. Plus that length gave the stock some flex which equals wider tunes and better accuracy at 1k IMO. Rather than shorten the forend, make a longer joystick for your rest.

Every rifle is an individual. But yes, the old version Mc f-open stock is a good one. I had one myself. I have experimented with stocks and have yet to find the point that flex starts to harm grouping at long range. If your a 100yd tuner, you probably prefer a little stiffer stock. At 1k I'd bet its hurting you. Flex helps positive compensation. Positive compensation is a reality in long range shooting. If you want to shoot really small thats the only way its gonna happen. Cone of dispersion and ES will limit you.

Kidding aside I really like my original long Low Boy stock. For the most part it shoots every barrel I have better than stocks that are shorter. I have 2 of Wheeler Accuracy f-class stocks and like them both. One about the same length as the Low Boy and one about 2" shorter. Like the longer one better. Only problem is not the length of the SEB joystick, but the initial set up. I am a short dude, short arms and have to slide around on my matt when setting up prone. I can not reach the crude elevation controls with either a Farley or SEB, while looking thru the scope. Have to turn the power down and struggle back and forth. I feel it is well worth the hassle to run a longer stock.
